Frequently Asked Questions

How long can I store the spare cartridges from this MB491 5-pack?

Toner cartridges store well for a long time if they are kept sealed, upright, and in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. With five 44574701 cartridges rated at up to 4,000 pages each, a light user might work through this pack over several years — sensible storage is what makes that possible. Keep the spares in their packaging until the day one goes into the MB491.

What does the pack save compared with buying singles?

A single 44574701 cartridge is $28.45, so five bought separately total $142.25. This pack is $68.28, which saves $73.97 and drops the per-cartridge cost to about $13.66. Across the pack's roughly 20,000 pages, that works out at about 0.34 cents per page.

How do I know a cartridge is genuinely finished and not just settling?

When prints start fading evenly, take the cartridge out and rock it gently side to side a few times to redistribute the toner inside, then reinstall it. That often recovers a modest number of extra pages. When fading returns quickly after that, the cartridge really is at the end of its 4,000-page life and it is time to open the next one from the pack.

Does the pack contain anything besides toner cartridges?

No. It is five black toner cartridges with the 44574701 number, nothing else — no drum unit, no transfer parts. The MB491 treats toner and drum as separate consumables, and this box only replaces the toner side of that pair.

What if I open a cartridge and the prints look wrong straight away?

Every cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty, and compatible cartridges from us carry 1-year free returns as well — see the shipping & returns page for the details. Contact support, Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and keep the cartridge as it is rather than trying to open or adjust it.

Where will my order ship from?

From one of our four warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, whichever serves your address best. If your MB491 shares the office with other machines, the rest of our Okidata lineup is on the site so you can stock up for everything in one order.
