    Frequently Asked Questions

My 1250c only prints a few pages a day — how long will a set like this actually last me?

Quite a while, and that is the quiet advantage of a small desktop machine. The black cartridge in this set, the 331-0778, is rated at 2,000 pages; at a handful of pages a day that stretches across many months, and the three colors — the 331-0777 cyan, 331-0780 magenta and 331-0779 yellow at 1,400 pages each — will typically last longer still in a home office or single-desk setup where color appears in the occasional chart or photo rather than in every document. The ratings assume 5% page coverage, so a light user's real-world life from a set is usually measured in seasons, not weeks.

Will the color cartridges dry out if the 1250c mostly prints black text?

No — that is an inkjet worry, not a laser one. Toner is a dry powder sealed inside the cartridge, so the cyan 331-0777, magenta 331-0780 and yellow 331-0779 do not dry, clog or expire on a schedule the way ink does. A color cartridge that sits idle for months while the black does the daily work will still print when a color job finally arrives. What does age a cartridge is sitting in a hot or damp spot, so keep any spare set in a cool, dry drawer and it will wait patiently for its turn.

What are the four part numbers I should see on the boxes?

Black 331-0778, cyan 331-0777, magenta 331-0780 and yellow 331-0779 — one of each, and the four together are the complete supply set for the 1250c and its siblings on the same platform, including the Color Laser 1350cnw, 1355cn, 1355cnw, 1755nf, 1755nfw, C1760nw and C1765nf. Each cartridge is keyed to its own color slot, so the part number and the color on the label both have to match the slot you are filling. Ordering by these numbers, rather than by the printer's marketing name alone, is the surest way to get the right box.

Why is the black rated at 2,000 pages when the colors are 1,400?

Because the workload is not split evenly. In a typical small office the black cartridge prints nearly every page — text is black — while each color only contributes to the pages that actually use it, and then only to part of the page. Dell rated the black 331-0778 higher to match that reality. The practical result for a 1250c owner is that the colors often outlast the black in calendar time even though their rating is lower, simply because they are called on less often.

Is a full four-cartridge set overkill for one small printer?

At $46.23 for the set — about $11.56 per cartridge — it is usually the opposite. Buying colors one at a time as they fade means paying single-cartridge prices and shipping four separate times, and it guarantees the printer is always one surprise away from a faded page in the middle of a job. A complete set on the shelf means whichever slot runs low, the replacement is already in the drawer. For a machine that earns its keep quietly on one desk, that predictability is worth more than the small saving from buying piecemeal.

What cover backs this set if something goes wrong?

Every cartridge carries a 1-year warranty against defects, and the set is backed by 1-year free returns if a cartridge does not perform — the details are on our shipping and returns page. These are compatible cartridges, not Dell-manufactured ones, and that cover is what makes the lower price a safe trade rather than a gamble. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you need a hand with a cartridge or a print-quality puzzle.

I was a little skeptical about purchasing this toner since not all of the reviews were good. But I did buy it and it's as good as the one that came with the printer. The toner at the office store where I bought the printer is almost twice the price I paid

Great price on replacement cartridges. I have no complaints they have seemed to yield as many prints as OEM cartridges.

Toner was working fine for about 3 weeks and ran dry. Probably didn't print more than 25 pages. Pure junk. Hopefully it was just a dud.

This cartridge replaced my original which only worked for 50 prints. This one prints perfect and obviously has a lot more toner than the original.

The toner went in the printer and began working immediately and smoothly. I printed over hundred pages in the first day and it worked great.
