Frequently Asked Questions
We print only a few pages a day on our 1230c. How far does one set go?
A long way, at that pace. The black cartridge, part number 330-3012, is rated at 1,500 pages, so a desk printing a few pages daily is looking at many months before black runs low. The colors — 330-3015 cyan, 330-3014 magenta and 330-3013 yellow, rated at 1,000 pages each — are spent only when you print in color, so a mostly black-and-white workload barely touches them. Light users are exactly who this compact family was built for.
What are the four cartridges in the box?
One per slot: the 330-3012 black rated at 1,500 pages, and the 330-3015 cyan, 330-3014 magenta and 330-3013 yellow rated at 1,000 pages each. They are compatible cartridges for the Dell 1230c cartridge family, not Dell-manufactured cartridges, and the set is priced at $103.22 — about $25.81 per cartridge when you split it evenly.
Why do color pages seem to use toner faster than the ratings suggest?
Ratings are measured at 5% page coverage — roughly a short letter's worth of ink on the page. A full-page color photo or a dense presentation slide can cover most of the sheet, which spends toner from all three color cartridges many times faster than the rating assumes. Text documents track the ratings closely; graphics-heavy printing does not, on any brand of cartridge. That is a property of the rating standard, not a defect in the set.
When one cartridge eventually empties, can the others stay in?
Yes — each slot works independently, so life left in the other cartridges is not wasted when one runs out. Many light users replace the set in one go for convenience, but nothing about this set forces you to discard a cartridge that still has pages in it. When you do reorder, the four part numbers to look for are 330-3012, 330-3015, 330-3014 and 330-3013.
How should we store the set if we buy ahead?
Keep cartridges sealed in their packaging, stored flat in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Toner does not expire the way ink does, and a sealed compatible cartridge keeps well on a shelf, which makes buying a full set ahead of need a sensible move for a machine you rely on. Open a cartridge only when its slot is ready for it.
What cover comes with this set?
A 1-year warranty on every cartridge and 1-year free returns if one does not perform as it should, with the full terms on our shipping and returns page. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and orders ship from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California. For a compatible set, that year of cover is what makes the first purchase a low-risk one.
