Frequently Asked Questions

What black cartridge fits the M426fdw?

The LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw uses the CF226A black cartridge — the HP 26A — rated at up to 3,100 pages. This page is that cartridge, listed for the M426fdw by name at $32.48.

Jobs reach this machine from everywhere — do they all use the same cartridge?

Every one of them. A document printed from a desk, a form sent from a phone over Wi-Fi, a page copied at the glass — all of it comes out through the single CF226A. Wireless changes how jobs arrive at the M426fdw; it does not change which cartridge prints them.

Which of the machine's jobs spend toner, and which do not?

Printing and copying spend it — both put toner on paper. Scanning does not: it makes a digital file and the gauge stays put. Received faxes print in black only, so they spend from this same cartridge as well.

Why did the level fall while the office was barely printing?

The likely suspects are copies and faxes. Copies rarely register in anyone's memory, and incoming faxes print whether anyone is watching or not. The usage page splits the counts by job type, and the discrepancy almost always shows up there.

How do I check the cartridge level without going to the machine?

Over the same wireless connection you print through: the printer's software and its embedded web page both show the supplies view with the CF226A gauge. A glance from your desk tells you whether a reorder belongs on today's list.

What support comes with the purchase?

The cartridge carries our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Orders leave from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California — the details are on our shipping and returns page — and support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Black Cartridge for the M426fdw

Wireless plus multifunction makes the M426fdw the machine an office leans on hardest — and every leaning spends from one black cartridge. This CF226A (26A black), rated at up to 3,100 pages and priced at $32.48, is the cartridge underneath all of it.

The habit that suits this model is a remote one: watch the gauge from your desk, let the CF226A code be the reorder, and the busiest machine in the office never has to announce an empty cartridge by failing mid-job.

The cartridge drops into the LaserJet M426fdw, LaserJet M402d, LaserJet M402dn, LaserJet M402dw and LaserJet MFP M426fdn. The base listings carry the same cartridge as the 26A single (CF226A) and in volume as the 26A two-pack (CF226A).
