Frequently Asked Questions

What cartridge does the M402dw take?

The LaserJet M402dw uses the CF226A black cartridge — the HP 26A — rated at up to 3,100 pages, and sold here for this model at $32.48.

Does wireless printing use a different cartridge?

No. The wireless radio lives in the printer, not the cartridge. A page sent from a phone, a tablet or a laptop across the room draws on the very same CF226A as a page sent down a USB cable — the route the job travels has nothing to do with the toner it spends.

Why does the level drop faster than my own printing explains?

Because a wireless printer collects everyone's jobs. Colleagues print to it from their desks, phones send boarding passes and forms to it, and walk-up printing adds up quietly. The status page counts all of it, even the pages you never saw.

How can I check the level from my desk?

Through the printer's embedded web server or its software on your computer — the supplies view shows the CF226A gauge over the same wireless connection you print through. There is no need to stand at the machine to know where the cartridge stands.

How many pages should I expect from one cartridge?

Up to 3,100 pages at the standard 5% coverage. A wireless workgroup printer mostly produces text — emails, forms, documents — and that workload tracks the rating closely; dense graphics-heavy pages will spend it faster.

What backing does the cartridge have?

It carries our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Orders ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California — details on our shipping and returns page — with support available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Black Cartridge for the M402dw
