Frequently Asked Questions

What work is the black cartridge doing inside a graphics-configured 7800DG?

More than it gets credit for. In a design studio the DG prints proofs, comps and client presentations — and the black cartridge carries the text, the fine line work and the deep shadow content inside those pages, including the black component of rich, four-color blacks. When output starts looking washed out or text loses its edge, it is very often this cartridge, not the colors, that is running down.

Does the DG suffix change which black cartridge the printer takes?

No. The letters after "7800" describe how the printer itself was configured at the factory; the black supply is one design shared by the entire platform. Your 7800DG takes the same 106R01569 as the base model and every other variant — match the cartridge code and you have matched the supply.

How many pages is this cartridge rated for?

Up to 24,000 pages at the standard 5% coverage measure, for $112.34 — roughly 0.47 cents of black toner per page. Proof-heavy pages with large dark areas draw more toner than the yardstick assumes, so a studio cartridge may finish sooner; the rating's real job is comparing one cartridge against another on equal terms.

The title says "Cartridges" — is this a multi-pack?

It is not. Despite the plural in the name, this listing ships one black cartridge. Studios that want the next one already on the shelf when a proof run is due should look at the two, three and five packs in this same family; this page is the single, immediate replacement.

Is this the black only, with colors handled elsewhere?

Yes — this is the black cartridge alone. The 7800DG's three color positions take their own separate cartridges with their own part numbers. Black earns a listing of its own because it underpins every proof the studio sends out, color work included.

What backing and delivery come with the cartridge?

Our 1-year warranty and free returns for a full year, under the terms on the shipping & returns page. We ship from IL, PA, GA and CA, support is staffed Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the platform's wider range is on the Xerox toner page.
