Frequently Asked Questions

The set is rated at 51,000 colour pages in total. What does that headline actually buy on an A3 graphics printer?

Less than the number suggests, and it is better to know that before ordering than after. Each cartridge in the set is rated at 17,000 pages, and that rating is counted on letter-size pages at 5% coverage. A Phaser 7800 spends its life on tabloid and A3 sheets, which carry roughly twice the printable area, and graphics work — posters, proofs, full-bleed boards — covers far more of each sheet than 5%. So read the 51,000 as the yardstick the industry measures by, not a promise: on heavy A3 output the real figure lands well below it, while lighter work such as drawings and layouts with open white space comes closer.

What is in the box?

Three cartridges, one of each colour the 7800's colour engine uses: cyan 106R01566, magenta 106R01567 and yellow 106R01568, each rated at 17,000 pages. No black cartridge is included — black feeds the mono side of the machine, burns through on its own timetable and is stocked from a separate listing, so the colour side can be refreshed without paying for a black unit you may not need for months.

How does the money work out cartridge by cartridge?

The set is $228.49 for the three cartridges, which is $76.16 for each 17,000-page colour unit. Spread across the set's 51,000 rated colour pages, colour toner works out at about 0.45 cents per rated page. Those figures are worked strictly from this set's own price and ratings, on the same rated-page basis the yield numbers use; heavy real-world coverage on A3 sheets raises the effective cost per finished sheet, as the first answer explains.

My colours have gone wrong but no bay is showing empty. How do I pin down which cartridge is responsible before opening the set?

Print the machine's built-in colour test or demo page and read the solid bars, not a photograph. The bar that prints weak, streaked or uneven names the bay at fault: greens collapsing toward blue point at yellow 106R01568, reds browning and skin tones turning sallow point at magenta 106R01567, and skies washing out point at cyan 106R01566. Two minutes with that page stops you swapping a healthy cartridge, and tells you whether one bay needs changing now or the whole trio has drifted together.

Which printers does this set fit?

It is made for the Phaser 7800 range — the 7800, 7800DN, 7800DX, 7800GX and 7800DG. Those models differ in finishing, paper handling and network options, but they share one colour engine and one set of colour cartridges: 106R01566, 106R01567 and 106R01568 fit every variant in the family.

What cover comes with the set if something goes wrong?

Every cartridge carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, and cover attaches to each unit individually — a cartridge that leaks, bands or dies young is replaced or refunded on its own, without the rest of the set going back with it. Orders leave whichever of our four US warehouses — IL, PA, GA or CA — gives the shortest route to you, and a person is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you want the codes checked against your machine before you order. Charges, timeframes and the returns process itself are set out on our shipping & returns page.

About This Three-Cartridge Colour Set for the Phaser 7800

This box holds the full colour side of the Phaser 7800 platform: cyan 106R01566, magenta 106R01567 and yellow 106R01568, one cartridge of each, every unit rated at 17,000 pages for 51,000 rated colour pages across the set, at $228.49. It suits the way these graphics-class A3 machines are actually worked — proofs, posters and presentation boards where the colour has to be right and where a matched, known-age trio is easier to trust than three cartridges of three different ages. Black is stocked separately, and the full supplies range for the platform sits in our Xerox catalogue. Each cartridge in the set is covered by the 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns described above.
