Frequently Asked Questions
Who actually needs six colour cartridges in a single order?
Anyone whose printer is shared. On a workgroup machine, colour goes in bursts nobody schedules — a presentation run on Monday, a batch of invoices with colour logos on Thursday — and the person who finds an empty bay is never the person who used it up. Six cartridges across the three colours mean that discovery takes minutes to fix instead of becoming somebody else's problem while a delivery crosses the country. For a lightly used home printer it would be more stock than sense; for a shared office machine it is the difference between a swap and a standstill.
Which colours and codes do the six cartridges cover?
The six units span the three colour bays of the printer: cyan is code 106R01477, magenta is code 106R01478 and yellow is code 106R01479. Every cartridge is printed with its code and colour name, so the shelf stays readable — whoever restocks the machine can find the right bay's refill without knowing anything about the printer. Black does not appear in this set at all; it is a different cartridge, ordered separately on its own listing.
How should the spares be stored so they are ready months from now?
Keep them sealed, upright and indoors. An unopened cartridge holds its full rating on the shelf, but heat and sunlight work against it: store the boxes flat-side stable in a cupboard away from radiators and windows, not in a garage or a boiler room. Work through them in the order they arrived, fitting the oldest box for a colour first, and only break a seal at the moment you are standing at the open printer — a cartridge opened early gains nothing and can pick up dust on its drum.
What does the 2,000-page rating on each cartridge translate to in a shared office?
The figure comes from the industry test page at about 5% coverage, and it applies cartridge by cartridge — every 106R01477, 106R01478 and 106R01479 in this set carries the same 2,000-page rating. A shared machine printing colour reports and slides will move through colour faster than the rating implies, because real pages carry more than 5% colour; a month of mostly text with colour accents can meet or beat it. Count your own pages for a month and you will know your true reorder rhythm better than any box number can tell you.
Will this stock still be useful if the office changes printer models later?
Within the platform, yes. The set is made for the Phaser 6140 family, including the 6140N and the 6140DN — those variants add networking and automatic two-sided printing but keep the same bays and the same three codes. So a move from the base model to the networked one does not strand a single cartridge on your shelf. Move outside the 6140 family, though, and the codes change with the machine.
How does the cover work when I am holding this much stock?
Protection runs per cartridge, not per order: each of the six units carries its own 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so if one cartridge misbehaves, that unit alone goes back for a replacement or refund and the other five stay in service. Stock is dispatched from the nearest of our warehouses in IL, PA, GA or CA, and a support team answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. Full delivery terms and the returns steps live on our shipping & returns page.
About This 6 Colour Set for the Phaser 6140
At $96.01, this is the deep-stock option for the Phaser 6140 platform: six cartridges covering the cyan 106R01477, magenta 106R01478 and yellow 106R01479 bays, each cartridge rated at 2,000 pages. It suits the shared printer that cannot wait on deliveries — when a colour gives out mid-job, the refill is already in the building. Sealed units keep their rating in storage, cover runs cartridge by cartridge with a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns on every unit, and black for this platform is ordered separately alongside the wider Xerox range.
