    Frequently Asked Questions

Why has every green on our pages quietly turned blue?

Because on this printer green is not loaded from a green cartridge — it is mixed on the paper from cyan and yellow laid down together. While both supplies are healthy the mix lands as green. As the yellow in this 106R01479 fades, the cyan half of the recipe keeps arriving at full strength and simply outvotes it, so lawns, leaves and green chart bars all slide toward blue and teal. Nothing about the file or the settings changed; one of the two ingredients is running out.

Our oranges now print red — is that really the yellow's fault too?

It is, from the opposite direction. Orange is also a two-cartridge recipe: magenta warmed by a generous helping of yellow. When the yellow contribution weakens, the magenta stands alone and the eye reads it as red or deep pink. So a fading yellow cartridge announces itself twice — greens cooling toward blue at one end of the chart, warm colors losing their warmth at the other. Two symptoms that look unrelated share one empty supply.

How did it get this far without anyone noticing?

Yellow is the lightest toner the machine carries and the last color anyone blames. Black text stays perfect, reds look plausible for weeks, and most office pages carry so little yellow that the drift hides in plain sight. The change is also gradual — each day's pages are a fraction cooler than the day before, and nobody compares Tuesday's flyer with last month's. Yellow is almost always discovered by its mixtures, not by itself: the day someone prints a green logo or an orange headline, the shortage suddenly has a name.

What is the surest way to prove it is the yellow before ordering?

Print the printer's demo or supplies page and study the solid yellow bar. A healthy one is saturated and even from edge to edge; a spent one looks pale, washed or streaked while the cyan, magenta and black bars beside it stay dense. An even sharper test is to print one deliberate patch of pure green: on a tired yellow supply it cannot come out green at all, and emerges blue instead. Thirty seconds with either page beats guessing from photographs.

What does the 2,000-page rating mean for a cartridge priced at $31.41?

The 106R01479 is rated at up to 2,000 pages under standard test coverage, which puts its cost at roughly 1.57 cents per rated page. That test assumes a modest scattering of color per sheet. Yellow escapes the average, though: a page of black text with a blue hyperlink spends almost none of it, while a sunny photograph or a green-heavy chart can burn through several pages' worth in a single sheet. Light color offices will see something close to the rating; graphics-heavy ones will see less.

What cover do I have if the cartridge turns out to be faulty?

The cartridge carries a 1-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year as well, so a unit that arrives defective or gives up early is put right without extra cost to you; the full terms sit on our shipping and returns page. Stock ships from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and our support team is on hand Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Xerox 106R01479 Yellow Cartridge

This is the yellow supply for the 6140 family: a single compatible cartridge, part number 106R01479, $31.41, rated at up to 2,000 pages. One unit serves the entire platform — the Phaser 6140, the Phaser 6140N and the Phaser 6140DN all draw from the identical yellow cartridge, so a single spare covers whichever model sits on the desk. It rarely makes a scene on its own page, yet it is half the recipe for every green and most of the warmth in every orange your office prints. The rest of the range for this platform lives on our Xerox page.
