Frequently Asked Questions
Our logo is a strong red, and lately it prints as a tired rust — why?
Because that red is mostly magenta. A saturated brand red is one of the heaviest magenta jobs a small printer does: the color is built from a dense layer of this cartridge with a smaller share of yellow, so the magenta level falls fastest exactly where your branding lives. As the CLT-M404S runs down, the mixture thins and the red slides towards orange and rust, and it happens gradually enough that the first person to notice is usually a customer comparing two brochures side by side. If your reds have lost their punch while everything else looks acceptable, suspect this cartridge before you suspect the file.
The heading here says CLT-404S — is that the same cartridge as the CLT-M404S in our machine?
It is. CLT-404S is the name of the whole cartridge family for this platform; the letter in CLT-M404S tells you which slot it fills — M for magenta. The black is the CLT-K404S, the cyan and yellow carry C and Y in the same position, and all four share the 404S family name. Order by the full code from your old cartridge and you cannot pick the wrong color.
How many pages should we honestly plan on?
The rating is 1,000 pages at 5% coverage, and marketing work is not 5% work. A flyer with a red banner, photographs and blocks of color can lay down five to ten times the standard coverage, so a cartridge that would last months on correspondence may last weeks on campaign printing. Plan on the rating as the yardstick, watch the level trend after your first big run, and let your own pages — not the box — set the reorder rhythm.
What does one of our flyers cost in magenta?
At $76.50 for a rated 1,000 pages, the standard-coverage figure is about 7.65 cents a page — and a color-dense flyer will spend several times that in magenta alone. There is no cheaper pack option in this family; the cartridge is sold singly, one at a time, as this compact platform is designed to be fed. Knowing the per-page number lets you price a print run before you commit to it instead of after.
When should we reorder so a campaign never stalls?
On a 1,000-page cartridge, the low-toner warning is your trigger, not your reminder to think about it. Order the day the warning appears and the replacement normally arrives while the reserve in the old cartridge is still printing; wait until pages visibly fade and you have already lost a run. Offices that print in bursts — a mailing one week, silence the next — are better served by keeping one sealed spare than by ordering in a panic.
What protection does the purchase carry?
A full year of warranty cover against defects stands behind the cartridge, and returns are free of charge throughout those first twelve months — the detail is on our shipping and returns page. Questions are answered by a support team working Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
