Three printers in the first EcoTank generation run a split ink system, and this is their black: the ET-3600, ET-4550 and ET-16500 take a purpose-built 140 mL pigment black — our compatible T774120-S — rated up to 6,000 pages per bottle (ISO/IEC 24712, Epson methodology).

What "split" means, plainly: their color tanks refill from the 664 family (T664220/320/420, sold here as singles), but the black tank takes this bottle and no other. Epson's Works With list for T774120-S names exactly these three printers, and the 664 black long sold for them elsewhere is not on their lists at all. Our compatible bottle follows Epson's UK/EU-documented formulation for the code — pigment black, the water- and fade-resistant kind, on a 140 mL fill that's twice the 664 bottle's volume.
One number needs unscrambling, because both appear in the wild: the printers' in-box ratings (11,000 pages for the ET-3600/4550, 10,500 for the ET-16500) count two black bottles — the box ships with spares for the first big fill. A single replacement bottle, Epson's own included, is rated 6,000 pages, which is the number we publish. The refill is the keyed-nozzle, auto-stop routine, no chip, and the bottle is covered by our lifetime warranty with free returns for the first year.
And the mirror warning, since the confusion runs both ways: this bottle does not fit the ET-2500, ET-2550, ET-2600, ET-2650 or ET-4500 — their black is the 664 bottle. Three models here, five there, and the two groups never mix blacks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is this bottle, exactly?
T774120-S: a 140 mL pigment black ink bottle for exactly three printers — ET-3600, ET-4550, ET-16500 — rated up to 6,000 pages (ISO/IEC 24712, Epson methodology).
Why does my ET-4550 take a different black from my ET-2500?
Epson split the first generation: five models run 664 for everything; three larger models (yours among them) got a bigger, pigment black — this one — while keeping 664 colors. The Works With lists are exclusive in both directions.
Can I use the 664 black instead? It's cheaper.
Epson's documentation doesn't list it for your printer — the 664 black's Works With list excludes the ET-3600/4550/16500 outright. Use the 774; it's the bottle your black tank was built for.
And the colors for my printer?
664 bottles: T664220-S cyan, T664320-S magenta, T664420-S yellow, 70 mL each, 6,500 pages each — sold here as singles. There are no "774 colors"; the family is black-only.
The printer box said 11,000 pages. Why is the bottle 6,000?
The box rating counts two black bottles (the printer ships with a spare). One replacement bottle — this one, or Epson's own — is rated 6,000 pages. We publish the per-bottle figure.
Is the standard 24712 or 24711?
24712 — Epson's quoted test standard for this bottle. Some reseller listings print 24711; Epson's own documentation doesn't.
Pigment black — what does that change for me?
Pigment particles sit on the paper surface rather than soaking in: text stays crisp and resists water and fading better than dye — the right black for documents and the 13×19 prints the ET-16500 produces. The type is documented on Epson's official UK/EU pages for this code.
Is there a chip?
None. Refill by keyed nozzle, confirm the reset on the panel, print. A recognition error is impossible with a bottle.
Will a 774 bottle fit my ET-16500's color tanks?
No — it's black ink in a black-tank-keyed bottle, and colors take the 664 bottles. The keying prevents the swap physically.
Does the ET-16500 Business Edition take it too?
Yes — same printer, same ink system; one category covers both.
Is this a genuine Epson bottle?
No — a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T774120-S specification, clearly labeled compatible on the box and this page.
What cover do I get?
A lifetime warranty — a bottle that fails to perform is replaced — plus free returns within the first year.
