The black bottle is the workhorse of the Epson 502 family, and this is the one your EcoTank will drink fastest. Our compatible T502120-S bottle carries 127 mL of pigment black ink — the same ink type Epson specifies for the 502 black position — rated for up to 7,500 pages on the ISO/IEC 24712 pattern.
Why pigment matters: dye black soaks into paper fibers and can feather; pigment particles sit closer to the surface, which is why 502 printers produce text that looks almost laser-printed — sharp edges, no bleed, and far better resistance to water and highlighter smears. If your EcoTank mostly prints invoices, schoolwork, contracts or shipping labels, this bottle is where print quality is decided.
The bottle itself follows the EcoFit pattern: a keyed nozzle that only seats on the black tank of a 502 printer, an auto-stop fill that halts when the tank is full, and a resealable cap for the ink you don't use. There is no chip in a bottle — nothing for the printer to reject — so refilling is a two-minute, mess-free job.
Check your family before you order: this is the 502 black bottle (T502120-S). It fits the 16 EcoTank models listed below. It does not fit 522 printers (ET-2720, ET-2800, ET-4800) — those take a smaller 65 mL dye black bottle with a different key.

Is this the T502120-S bottle?
Yes. This is our compatible version of the Epson T502120-S black ink bottle: 127 mL of pigment black ink, up to 7,500 pages (ISO/IEC 24712).
Why is the black ink pigment while the colors are dye?
That split comes from Epson's own 502 design. Pigment black gives sharper, more water-resistant text on plain paper; dye colors give brighter, smoother color. We match that formula split bottle for bottle.
Will this bottle fit my ET-2720?
No — the ET-2720 is a 522 printer. Its black bottle is 65 mL, dye-based, and keyed differently, so a 502 bottle won't seat in its tank. This bottle fits the 16 models in the compatibility list below.
My printer is an ET-2850. Some sites sell me 522 — who's right?
We are, and Epson's documentation backs it: the ET-2850's replacement ink is T502 (black 7,500 pages). The ET-2800 takes 522; the ET-2850 takes 502. The numbering is genuinely confusing, which is why we verify every model against Epson's own pages.
Does the bottle have a chip my printer can reject?
No. Ink bottles are chipless — the keyed nozzle is a purely mechanical fit. There is no electronic handshake, so the "cartridge not recognized" problem that plagues chipped cartridges can't happen here.
How does the keyed nozzle work?
Each 502 bottle's nozzle is shaped for its own tank position. The black bottle only locks onto the black tank, and the fill stops automatically when the tank reaches full — no squeezing, no guessing, no overflow.
How many pages will I actually get?
Up to 7,500 pages under the ISO/IEC 24712 test pattern with Epson's methodology. Real-world yield depends on coverage: text documents land near the rating, heavy graphics use more ink per page.
How should I store a half-used bottle?
Cap it tightly, keep it upright at room temperature away from direct sunlight, and it will be ready for the next top-up. (Shelf-life figure: see Specifications — supplier figure pending confirmation.)
Can I mix this with ink already in the tank?
Topping up a tank that still holds the same family's ink is exactly what EcoTank is designed for. We recommend against mixing different families (502 with 522) — they are different ink sets, not just different bottles.
What warranty covers this bottle?
