This black does not print your documents — it finishes your photographs. Our compatible T302XL120-S is the 302 family's dye photo black: where the pigment black (code 020) lays down dense, matte text, photo black lays down the smooth, glossy dark tones that make printed photos look like photographs — deep shadows without the grainy step where a document black runs out of subtlety.

One thing you will not find on this page is a page count, and that is deliberate. Epson's official product pages attach Black and Color yields to numbers but refer Photo Black to a footnote: Epson does not publish an ISO page yield for this cartridge, because photo coverage varies too much for the standard pattern to mean anything. We follow Epson — the Page Yield field is left blank rather than filled with a number borrowed from a reseller.
The cartridge carries a new compatible chip that reports ink levels to the printer. Stated plainly: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur — if a warning appears, reseat the cartridge firmly and restart before assuming the cartridge is at fault. Its siblings: T302XL020-S pigment black (up to 550 pages), T302XL220-S cyan, T302XL320-S magenta and T302XL420-S yellow (up to 650 pages each). It fits the Expression Premium XP-6000 and XP-6100 only, and is covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many pages does the T302XL120 print?
Epson does not publish a page yield for this cartridge — its official pages give numbers for black and the colours and refer photo black to a footnote, because photo coverage varies too widely for the ISO page pattern. We leave the figure blank rather than invent one.
Photo black or black — what's the actual difference?
Chemistry and job. Black (T302XL020-S) is pigment, built for crisp, water-resistant documents. Photo black — this cartridge — is dye, built for glossy, graduated dark tones in photographs. The printer draws on each for its own work.
Can I use the regular black in the photo black slot?
No. The two blacks have different codes (020 and 120), different inks and different slots. Each belongs only in its own position.
Which printers take it?
The Expression Premium XP-6000 and XP-6100. It does not fit the older XP-600 or XP-610 (273 family), and it is not a 312 cartridge.
What if my printer flags the cartridge after an update?
This cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur. Power off, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart; if the warning persists, contact us — the lifetime warranty covers it.
Does it report ink levels?
Yes. The new compatible chip reports remaining ink to the printer like a standard cartridge does, so the low-ink warning still works — useful for a cartridge whose consumption depends on how many photos you print.
Standard or XL — which am I buying?
The XL, the high-capacity tier. Note that Epson publishes no page yield for either tier of photo black, so the honest comparison between them is capacity class, not a number — the XL is the larger cartridge.
Is the ink dye or pigment?
Dye. In the Claria Premium layout only the document black is pigment; photo black and the three colours are dye, per Epson's fact sheet for this family.
Is it a genuine Epson cartridge?
No — a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T302XL120-S specification and labelled compatible on the box and this page. Epson did not manufacture it.
How much ink is in it, in millilitres?
We don't publish a figure: Epson's US documentation gives no millilitre volume for the 302 family, so the Volume field stays blank rather than borrowing a reseller's number.
What does the lifetime warranty cover?
A cartridge that leaks, prints poorly from new, or stays unrecognised after troubleshooting is replaced under the lifetime warranty. Free returns apply within the first year.
Should I buy the single or a set?
The single when only photo black is low. The Set of 5 replaces all five positions at once for less than five singles, and the Set of 11 stocks a heavy printer — both linked from this page.
