Frequently Asked Questions

The standard Canon 045 and this 045H both cost $32.49 — what is actually different?

The fill. The standard Canon 045 black is rated at 1,400 pages; this Canon 045H black — the 045HBK — is rated at 2,800 pages, twice the toner in the same slot of the same printers. At the identical $32.49 price, the running cost works out at about 2.32 cents a page for the standard cartridge against roughly 1.16 cents for this one. Nothing else about the choice is complicated: at price parity, the high-yield cartridge is the better buy for anyone who prints regularly.

How do I tell which of the two is sitting in my MF634Cdw now?

Look at the label on the installed cartridge, or at the box it came in. A standard cartridge reads Canon 045; the high-yield one reads Canon 045H, with 045HBK as the black's full code. The useful news is that the MF634Cdw takes either — they share the same slot — so whichever you find in there, ordering this 045H is a safe step up rather than a gamble on a different cartridge.

How long does 2,800 pages last at a typical desk?

At around 250 pages a month, close to eleven months. At 600 pages a month, about four to five months. The rating behind those figures assumes the standard 5% page coverage used across the industry, so a cartridge spent on dense, graphics-rich documents will finish sooner, and one spent on plain correspondence can run longer. Expect to change this black half as often as you changed the standard one.

Is this cartridge made by Canon?

No — it is a compatible 045HBK, manufactured to the Canon 045H specification rather than by Canon itself. That is the whole reason a 2,800-page black can be sold at $32.49, level with the standard-yield cartridge, instead of at a name-brand premium. What stands behind it is our cover: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns on every cartridge, detailed in the answer below.

Which other printers use the 045HBK?

The ImageClass LBP612Cdw and the ImageClass MF632Cdw take the same black cartridge, so if your MF634Cdw shares an office with either of those, this one cartridge covers all of them. This listing is the black only; the cyan, magenta and yellow members of the Canon 045H family are separate listings for when the color side of the machine runs low.

What cover comes with it, and where do I read the details?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. A cartridge that misbehaves within the year, or an unopened one you ordered by mistake, goes back at no cost to you. The full wording lives on our shipping and returns page, and our support team answers questions Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
