Frequently Asked Questions

This is the busiest printer in our office — is a 2,100-page cartridge big enough for it?

Big enough, yes, but on a hard-working MF4580dn it will cycle fast. At 800 pages a week — realistic for the office's main networked machine — a 2,100-page cartridge lasts under three weeks. That is not a flaw in the cartridge; it is simply the consumption rate of a shared, duplexing workhorse. Busy offices usually treat this single as the shelf spare and feed the machine from multi-cartridge listings, but if you need one cartridge today, this is the correct one at $26.19.

What does the per-page cost look like at our volume?

$26.19 divided by the rated 2,100 pages is roughly 1.25 cents per page. We will be straightforward: buying singles is the most expensive per-page way to run this printer, and at MF4580dn volumes that difference adds up over a year. The honest reason to choose this listing is immediacy — one cartridge, right now, no larger commitment — while high-volume buyers should look at the pack listings for the same Canon 128 cartridge.

Is this the right cartridge for the imageCLASS MF4580dn?

Yes. This is the Canon 128 black toner cartridge for the Canon imageCLASS MF4580dn, the duplex, Ethernet-networked multifunction in the MF4580 line. Every network print job, copy and fax the machine produces draws from this single cartridge. Its networking and two-sided printing change how work flows to the machine, not which cartridge it takes.

How do we tell the cartridge is truly finished rather than just having a bad day?

Run the simple test: pull the cartridge out, rock it gently side to side several times to level the remaining toner, put it back and print a test page. If density returns, the cartridge still has usable toner and the earlier fading was uneven distribution. If a fresh test page is still pale from edge to edge, the cartridge has delivered its rated life and swapping in the spare is the fix — no setting on the MF4580dn will resurrect an empty cartridge.

Who should own the spare-cartridge shelf for a machine like this?

One named person — the office manager or whoever orders supplies — because shared machines run dry fastest when everyone assumes someone else ordered. A workable routine: one cartridge in the machine, one sealed spare in the cabinet, and reordering the moment the spare goes in. Store the spare flat, sealed, away from heat and sunlight, and the rotation stays effortless even at this printer's pace.

What if a cartridge fails early in a machine this important?

Every cartridge we sell carries a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a leaking or streaking unit is replaced or returnable under the terms on our shipping and returns page — you are not absorbing the risk of trying it. Stock ships from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
