Frequently Asked Questions

How long will one of these sets actually last in our LBP654Cdw?

It depends on your monthly volume, so run your own number: the black 046HBK in this Canon 046H set is rated at up to 6,300 pages and the 046HC, 046HM and 046HY colors at up to 5,000 pages each. At roughly 800 pages a month, mostly documents, the black alone covers the better part of eight months; at 2,000 pages a month it is closer to a quarter. Color pages draw all four cartridges at once, so a color-heavy LBP654Cdw works through the set faster than a text-heavy one — the ratings are measured at the standard 5% coverage.

Why is this set listed for the LBP654Cdw specifically?

So you can order from the page of the printer sitting on your desk and land on exactly the cartridges it takes: the Canon 046H family — 046HBK black, 046HC cyan, 046HM magenta and 046HY yellow. The cartridges themselves are the standard Canon 046H set; this listing simply speaks your machine's name so there is no cross-checking a compatibility chart before checkout.

Our LBP654Cdw is a printer only, no copying. Do the colors still drain?

Only when color actually goes on the page. A black-and-white document job leaves the color cartridges essentially untouched, while a single color chart or photo page draws on cyan, magenta and yellow together. That is why, on a print-only machine like this one, the black usually asks for replacement first — sometimes twice over — before any color slot runs dry.

What does this set save against four single cartridges?

The same four Canon 046H cartridges bought singly total $144.69. This set is $89.21, which is $55.48 less — about 38% — and pulls the average price of a cartridge down to roughly $22.30. On a machine you plan to keep for years, ordering in sets rather than singles is where the running-cost difference quietly adds up.

Only the black is low right now. Should we fit the whole set?

You do not have to. Fit the 046HBK now and keep the three colors sealed in the cupboard; each cartridge is individually packaged, so nothing degrades while it waits. When a color eventually runs low, the replacement is already on site — no order, no delivery window, no pausing a print run mid-afternoon.

What happens if one cartridge in the set gives trouble?

It is handled on its own. These are compatible cartridges, each carrying a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns; a problem color does not drag the other three back with it. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page. Your set ships from the nearest of our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
