Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the D1550 seem to use so little toner?

Because its cartridge is a long-legged one. The C120BK is rated for 5,000 pages, and the imageCLASS D1550 prints black-and-white only, drawing everything from that single Canon 120 cartridge. On a moderate workload a cartridge genuinely lasts months, which is why owners of this machine often forget the cartridge code entirely — it is C120BK, for when the day finally comes.

What does that long life cost per page?

The cartridge is $32.42, so the rated maths is about 0.65 cents a page. Spread over 5,000 pages, the D1550's everyday documents, letters and copies cost very little in toner — the compatible price on a high-yield cartridge is doing the work here.

When it does run low, what are my signs?

The printer's low-toner warning first, then gradually lighter print if you push on. Rock the C120BK gently side to side to redistribute what remains and you will often restore full darkness for a while — but treat that as borrowed time and get the next cartridge ordered; we ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA.

Should a low-volume machine bother with multi-packs?

Honestly, not always. The packs of this same Canon 120 cartridge cut the per-cartridge price — but if one cartridge lasts your D1550 most of a year, a single plus perhaps one spare is the proportionate stock. Buy the bigger boxes when your volume, not the discount, justifies them.

What protection comes with this cartridge?

Our standard compatible cover: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. The details are on our shipping and returns page, and our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you want to talk to a person about an order.

Is this the genuine Canon cartridge?

No — it is a compatible C120BK, built as an equivalent of the Canon 120 at a lower price. For a black-and-white machine doing everyday work, that trade is the entire point: same cartridge role, same 5,000-page rating, and a warranty standing behind it if a unit disappoints.

About This Canon 120 (C120BK) Toner Cartridge for the imageCLASS D1550

Some printers make their owners think about toner constantly; the D1550, fed by a 5,000-page cartridge, is not one of them. This compatible Canon 120 black cartridge — C120BK, $32.42, roughly 0.65 cents per page — is the machine's single consumable, backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Buy it when the old one finally fades, fit it in minutes, and go back to forgetting about toner for another long stretch. If your volume ever does climb, the multi-pack versions of the same cartridge are waiting on our Canon page.
