Frequently Asked Questions

Will print quality match the original Canon cartridge?

For the work this machine class actually does — text, forms, invoices, reports, scanned copies — yes, expect clean, sharp, evenly filled pages. This compatible Canon 118 is built to the same 3,400-page yield specification as the original 2662B001AA, and it is filled and tested to print that volume properly. Where an original can occasionally edge ahead is in laboratory-grade photo work, which is not what an imageCLASS office machine is bought for. Judge it the way offices do: put a printed page next to one from your old cartridge and compare the text. That is the test that matters, and it is the test this cartridge is made to pass.

My prints have a grey background haze — is the cartridge bad?

Not necessarily. A faint grey wash across the whole page usually means toner has settled or a small amount has escaped during shipping and handling. Remove the cartridge, hold it level over a bin or paper sheet, and rock it side to side five or six times to redistribute the toner, then print ten pages — test output usually clears within a few sheets. If the haze persists after that, contact us: the cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a genuinely faulty unit costs you nothing but the phone call. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

How do I confirm this is the right cartridge before I order?

Check the part number, not just the model name. Pull your current cartridge out and look at the label: if it reads 2662B001AA, or your printer manual lists the Canon 118, you have the right cartridge. The Canon 118 fits imageCLASS machines including the MF8350CDN, MF8380CDW, MF8330CDN, MF8580CDW and the LBP7200CDN and LBP7660CDN printers. Thirty seconds with the old cartridge in hand removes all guesswork — model families overlap and look alike, part numbers do not.

Is 3,400 pages realistic, or a marketing number?

It is an industry-standard rating measured at 5% page coverage, the same basis Canon uses for the original — so the comparison between compatible and original is apples to apples. Real life moves the number both ways: plain text letters can beat it, while coverage-heavy pages — bold headers, shaded tables, full-page scans — will finish the cartridge sooner. Treat 3,400 as the honest benchmark for mixed office printing rather than a guaranteed count, and at $35.60 the cost works out near 1.05 cents per rated page.

Can I return it if my printer turns out to take a different cartridge?

Ordering mistakes happen, and this cartridge carries 1-year free returns on top of its 1-year defect warranty, so a wrong order is an inconvenience, not a loss. The details are on our shipping and returns page. That said, checking the 2662B001AA part number against your old cartridge first saves everyone the round trip — it takes less time than repacking a box.

How should I handle the cartridge when it arrives?

Keep it in its sealed bag until you are ready to install it — the bag keeps light and moisture off the drum surface inside. Store it flat, at room temperature, away from radiators and sunny windows. When you install, remove the protective strip and packaging fully, give the cartridge one gentle side-to-side rock to level the toner, and slide it in until it seats. Do not touch the green drum surface with your fingers; skin oil prints beautifully, and not in a way you want.
