Frequently Asked Questions

Why is the TN450 still the cartridge to buy for a printer this established?

The Brother HL-2270DW has been in service for years, and the cartridge family behind it never changed: this TN450 high-yield unit prints up to 2,600 pages at $27.13, about 1.04¢ per page. A printer that has already proven itself deserves a supply that is just as settled, and this page exists so owners of the platform's longest-running model can reorder the exact cartridge without hunting through newer, incompatible families.

How does the TN450 compare with the standard cartridge this printer shipped with?

The HL-2270DW originally used the TN420, a standard-yield cartridge rated at 1,200 pages. This TN450 is the high-yield version of the same cartridge design — same fit, same printer — but rated at 2,600 pages, so it runs more than twice as long between changes. There is no modification or setting involved; the printer treats it as the cartridge it was built around.

Will a cartridge family this mature still work with my printer's current firmware?

Yes. The TN450 design predates the HL-2270DW's later firmware revisions and has worked through all of them. Because the cartridge shape is the established one for this platform, owners are not gambling on a new design — this is the cartridge the installed base has been reordering for years.

How long will one TN450 realistically last in a home office?

At 2,600 pages, a home office printing 100 pages a month gets roughly two years from one cartridge; at 300 pages a month, about eight to nine months. Toner does not dry out the way ink does, so a slow pace costs nothing — the full yield is available whenever you print it.

When this cartridge finishes, does the drum need changing too?

Almost never at the same time. The matching DR420 drum unit is rated at 12,000 pages and costs $30.50, so it typically spans four to five TN450 cartridges. The printer flags the drum separately when its own life ends; until then, a fresh toner alone restores full print quality.

What cover comes with a cartridge for a printer of this age?

The same cover as every Clever Supplies cartridge: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns under our shipping & returns policy. Orders ship from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available 9 AM–5 PM CST if you want help confirming anything before you order.
