Frequently Asked Questions

The SCX-3205 is our family copier as well as printer — do copies use this cartridge?

They do. A copy is produced the same way as a print, imaged in toner from the MLT-D104S, so the copy button draws on the same 1,500-page supply. Scanning a document to the computer is the one job that uses no toner at all. Families who copy worksheets and documents daily should expect the cartridge to turn over faster than print counts alone suggest.

What running cost should we budget per page?

The cartridge is $39.58 and rated at 1,500 pages, which works out at about 2.64 cents of toner per page. That figure assumes typical text coverage; a month of copying dense worksheets or printing full-page images will push the real average up a little.

How do I swap the cartridge when the SCX-3205 says toner is low?

Open the front cover, pull the old MLT-D104S straight out by its handle, and unpack the new one. Give the new cartridge a few gentle side-to-side rocks so the powder sits evenly, remove its protective strip and cover, then slide it in until it seats and close the cover. The first pages afterwards should come out at full density.

Is there a higher-yield version of this cartridge we should look at instead?

No — Samsung made the MLT-D104S in a single yield grade, so 1,500 pages is the full-size cartridge for the SCX-3205; there is no extended-life variant to step up to. The way heavier users economise is pack pricing rather than a bigger cartridge, which is why the five-pack of this same unit exists alongside it in our Samsung toner cartridges range.

Which printers share this cartridge with the SCX-3205?

The same MLT-D104S runs in the ML-1660, ML-1665, ML-1666, ML-1670, ML-1675 and ML-1676 printers, the ML-1860, ML-1864 and ML-1865 series, and the SCX-3200, SCX-3201, SCX-3206, SCX-3210, SCX-3217 and SCX-3218. One cartridge design covers the whole compact generation, which keeps spares simple for homes with more than one Samsung.

What cover backs this purchase?

A warranty lasting one year and free returns for one year — a cartridge that leaks, streaks or gives up early is sent back at our expense, with the details laid out on the shipping and returns page. Orders are dispatched from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, so delivery does not depend on a single distant depot.
