Frequently Asked Questions

Why do two ML-1866 owners get different page counts from the same cartridge?

Because the rating is a benchmark, not a meter reading. The MLT-D104S is rated at 1,500 pages using standard test pages at about 5% coverage. An owner printing plain letters lands near that; an owner printing dense contracts, worksheets with shaded tables or graphics uses more toner per page and finishes sooner. Both results are normal — the cartridge is identical, the pages are not.

What does 2.64 cents a page actually mean for a light user?

It is the toner cost of this $39.58 cartridge spread over its rated life. For someone printing 100 pages a month, that is about $2.64 of toner a month — the cartridge simply lasts fifteen months or so. Light users feel the per-cartridge price far more than the per-page one, and $39.58 is a gentle number to pay once a year or so.

How will I know this cartridge is reaching its end?

The signs build gradually: text that was solid black turns grey, then a pale patch or stripe appears and survives a gentle rock of the cartridge. That last stage — fading that returns immediately after rocking — is the reliable signal that the fill is spent and a replacement should go in.

Should I keep a spare, or buy when the printer fades?

For an ML-1866 in regular use, a spare on the shelf is the calmer option: cartridges fade at the least convenient moment, and a replacement in the cupboard turns that into a two-minute swap. If the printer sits idle for months at a time, buying when you need it is equally reasonable — the sealed cartridge you order will arrive fresh either way.

Which printers share the ML-1866's cartridge?

The MLT-D104S also serves the ML-1660, ML-1665, ML-1666, ML-1667, ML-1670 and ML-1676 printers, the ML-1860, ML-1861, ML-1864, ML-1865 and ML-1865W, and the SCX-3200, SCX-3200K and SCX-3201 multifunctions. Our Samsung toner range page lists them all.

What backs this cartridge after I buy it?

A one-year warranty and free returns for one year: if it leaks, prints poorly or dies well short of its rating, it comes back to us at our expense. The steps are on the shipping and returns page. Orders ship from our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
