Ricoh Aficio MP-161 Toner Cartridges (Compatible)

Aficio MP-161

Sixteen pages a minute does not sound dramatic until a whole workgroup queues behind one machine — that is the job the Aficio MP-161 was built for, a digital copier engine that also serves as the office's shared printer. Everything it outputs runs through one black cartridge, the 841718, rated for up to 7,000 pages. One machine, one cartridge, one reorder: that simplicity is a large part of why these units stayed in service for so long.

The MP-161 suits a mid-size team that has outgrown desktop printers but does not need a departmental giant. It sits in a shared space, takes walk-up copying all day, and absorbs the print jobs of everyone around it. Because several people depend on it, a toner outage is never one person's problem — which is exactly why the single-cartridge design matters. Whoever keeps the supply closet stocked has one box to check, and the same box also covers the fax and SPF variants elsewhere in the building.

Toner Cartridges for Aficio MP-161

Cartridge	Color	Pack	Page Yield
841718	Black	Single	Up to 7,000 pages
841718	Black	2 Pack	Up to 7,000 pages
841718	Black	4 Pack	Up to 7,000 pages

Which cartridge should you buy?

Start with how the machine is used. A single MP-161 in a quiet corner office will work through a cartridge slowly, and a single 841718 is a sensible buy. On a shared floor the math changes: the 2-pack keeps a full spare within reach so a low-toner warning never becomes a stopped queue, and it lowers the cost of each cartridge compared with buying one at a time. Sites running several machines from this family — the 161, 171 and 201 lines all share the cartridge — usually do best with the 4-pack, since the stock cannot be stranded by one machine being replaced. Every option on this page is the same cartridge; only the count in the box changes, so the choice is really about how much interruption your office tolerates.

Chip, toner and everyday use

The cartridge carries a chip that the MP-161 reads to report toner levels, and the compatible cartridges here are chipped to be recognized the same way. When output starts to fade, take the cartridge out and rock it gently from side to side — the toner settles and you can often finish the day's work before swapping. Keep spares flat in their packaging, out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, and they will wait patiently for months. Fitting a fresh cartridge is a front-access job that takes a minute, with no tools and no settings to adjust afterwards.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which toner cartridge does the Aficio MP-161 use?

It uses the black 841718 cartridge, rated for up to 7,000 pages. That one cartridge covers copying and printing alike, and it is the only toner this page lists for the model.

Will the same cartridge fit our Aficio MP-171?

Yes. The Aficio MP-171 runs on the identical 841718 cartridge, as do the other 161 and 201 family machines in the list below. Many offices standardize on it for exactly that reason.

How long should one cartridge last?

The rating is up to 7,000 pages at the standard 5% page coverage. Dense documents, large graphics and heavy copying all use toner faster, so a busy workgroup will see fewer pages than a light one — another reason shared machines are often supplied from 2-packs or 4-packs.

Are these genuine Ricoh cartridges?

No — they are compatible replacements made for the MP-161, with a working chip so the machine reads toner levels normally. Each one is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year returns.
