Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use compatible (non-OEM) toner cartridges in my M454?
The correct cartridges for the M454 are W2020A, W2020X, W2021A, W2021X, W2022A, W2022X, W2023A, W2023X (HP 414A/414X). Whether you buy OEM or compatible, that number is what matters — anything outside HP 414A/414X will not seat properly in the M454.
What are the steps for replacing toner in the M454?
Open the front cover of the M454, pull the empty cartridge out by its handle, slide the new one in until it clicks, and close the cover. The M454 usually calibrates itself right after.
Should I choose the A or X version of HP 414A/414X toner for my M454?
The M454 accepts both A and X HP 414A/414X cartridges — X is high yield, A is standard. Light users of the M454 do fine with A; heavy users usually prefer X to cut down on cartridge changes.
