Frequently Asked Questions

Which cartridge does the LaserJet Pro M203dw take?

The LaserJet M203dw takes the CF230A black cartridge, the unit sold under the 30A family name. The "dw" letters describe the printer — duplex and wireless — not a different cartridge, so the same code that serves the rest of the M203 line serves this one. This listing is that cartridge, rated at 1,600 pages, and the code is printed on the label of the cartridge already inside your machine.

Does two-sided printing change how long the cartridge lasts?

The rating counts printed pages — impressions — not sheets of paper. A two-sided job puts two impressions on one sheet, so a 1,600-page cartridge delivers about 800 fully duplexed sheets. That is normal arithmetic, not faster wear: the toner used per printed side is the same whether the sheet is flipped by the duplex unit or fed twice by hand. Offices that duplex everything should simply plan in impressions when they forecast cartridge changes.

The M203dw is shared over Wi-Fi. How do we know when toner is getting low?

Because the printer is networked, nobody has to stand at the machine to check. The printer's embedded web page shows the cartridge level from any browser on the same network, and the front-panel indicator warns as the reserve falls. Shared machines burn toner invisibly — several people's small jobs add up — so a weekly glance at the level page is the habit that prevents the Friday-afternoon empty cartridge.

Printouts from the shared printer have gone faint on the left side only. What does that mean?

One-sided fading usually means the toner powder has settled toward one end of the cartridge, common on machines that sit between bursts of shared use. Remove the CF230A, rock it gently side to side several times to level the powder, and reinstall. If both edges print evenly afterwards, the cartridge still has life; if the pale edge returns immediately, the cartridge is close to empty and the spare should go in.

What does this cartridge cost, and where does it ship from?

The price is $28.52 for the Clever Supplies compatible cartridge for the M203dw. Orders are dispatched from our warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, routed from whichever is best placed for your delivery address. Full delivery and returns detail lives on the shipping and returns page.

What cover comes with the cartridge?

A 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns stand behind every unit, matching the way this HP compatible line is sold across the store. Keep the packaging until the first jobs print cleanly; if anything is wrong, support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST and will arrange the replacement or refund without a lengthy claims process.

About This CF230A Cartridge for the M203dw

Wireless and duplex made the M203dw the shared printer of the small office, and this CF230A is the cartridge that keeps it fed: 1,600 impressions of standard black, checked remotely through the printer's web page, swapped in two minutes when the reserve finally runs down. One code covers the purchase order, the shelf spare and the reorder — $28.52, warranted for a year, and stocked close enough to reach most offices before the old cartridge's last page is printed.
