Frequently Asked Questions

I am reordering for a LaserJet Pro M203. What code am I looking for?

Look for CF230A, also sold under the short name 30A. That is the black cartridge the M203 was built around, and it is the code printed on the label of the cartridge you will pull out. This listing is that unit, the standard-yield black for the whole M203 line, including the duplex LaserJet M203d. Matching the code on the outgoing cartridge is the whole job — no settings, adapters or firmware steps are involved in the swap.

Why did the first cartridge in a new M203 run out so much sooner than this one will?

Printers ship with an introductory cartridge that holds a smaller fill so the machine can be sold at a lower shelf price. The CF230A in this listing is the full retail cartridge rated at 1,600 pages, so the second cartridge in any M203 almost always outlasts the first by a wide margin. Owners who judge the printer's appetite by that first cartridge usually over-order; the 1,600-page rating is the honest baseline for planning.

Can one person change this cartridge without tools or a technician?

Easily — it is a two-minute job. Open the top cover, lift the old cartridge out by its handle, slide the new one in until it seats, and close the cover. Pull the sealing strip fully out before installing, and give the new cartridge a gentle side-to-side rock first so the toner sits evenly. The printer recognises the cartridge on its own and returns to ready without any menu work.

My M203 sits in a home office and prints in bursts. Does sitting idle hurt the cartridge?

Toner is a dry powder, so weeks of idleness do not dry it out the way liquid ink suffers. A cartridge can sit installed through a quiet month and print a clean first page when work returns. If a long-idle machine does print faintly at first, a gentle rock of the cartridge and a couple of test pages restore even coverage — the powder just needs redistributing after standing still.

How is this cartridge priced and delivered?

It is $28.52 from Clever Supplies, positioned as the compatible alternative to the genuine HP cartridge for the M203. Stock moves out of our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, with the closest one handling your order. The shipping and returns page sets out delivery expectations and returns in full, so the landed routine is clear before you order a spare for the drawer.

If the new cartridge prints badly from day one, what happens?

It is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. A cartridge that streaks, leaks or reads as faulty goes back for a replacement or refund — keep the box until the first prints prove clean, and reach support Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST so we can run the two-minute checks with you before arranging the return.

About This Cartridge for the LaserJet Pro M203

The M203 is the plain single-function printer of the line — one job, done quickly, on one desk — and this CF230A is its standard black cartridge: 1,600 pages per unit, swapped in minutes, identified by the 30A family name on every order list. For a home office or a small front desk, it keeps the buying simple: one code, one spare in the drawer, and a full-capacity cartridge that comfortably outlasts the introductory unit the printer arrived with.
