Frequently Asked Questions

What arrives in this 3 pack?

Three CF226A MICR black cartridges — the 26A cartridge from HP, filled with magnetic MICR toner for check printing — together at $60.44. Each cartridge is individually boxed and sealed, and the set serves LaserJet Pro M402 printers such as the LaserJet M402d, plus the LaserJet Pro M426 multifunction models.

Why would a payroll office keep three MICR cartridges on hand?

Payday does not move because a cartridge ran dry. Check runs are deadline work, and a spare on the shelf means a fading cartridge mid-run is a two-minute swap instead of a scramble. The third cartridge covers the gap while the next order is in transit.

How should the spare cartridges be rotated?

Keep the spares sealed in their boxes, flat, in a normal office cupboard away from heat and damp. Write the arrival month on each box and always take the oldest spare first, so no cartridge sits at the back of the cupboard for years while newer ones get used.

How far does each cartridge in the pack go?

Every cartridge in this pack carries the same rating: up to 3,100 pages at the standard 5% coverage. Checks are light-coverage pages, so in a check-only printer each cartridge covers a long stretch of weekly or biweekly runs before print starts to fade.

Does a fresh cartridge from the pack need testing before a check run?

A short trial is still the wise move. Print a few sample checks and confirm the bottom MICR line is crisp; if you have not yet had samples passed by your bank, take these in as well. Once a cartridge is proven in your printer, the rest of its run needs no further ceremony. One honest limit applies throughout: no cartridge maker can guarantee a bank's acceptance — the bank's own reader makes that call.

What if something in the pack is not right?

Each cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty with 1-year free returns. Stock ships from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, with the full terms on our shipping and returns page, and support answers Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This CF226A MICR 3 Pack

This pack suits the office where one person prints the checks and cannot afford a toner surprise on run day: three CF226A (26A) MICR cartridges, one working and two in reserve, for $60.44.

The routine it supports is simple. One cartridge lives in the printer, the oldest spare goes in when print fades, and the reorder happens the day the last spare leaves the cupboard — so the shelf is never empty when payroll is due.

The full printer list for it: the LaserJet M402d, LaserJet M402dn, LaserJet M402dw and LaserJet MFP M426fdn. For longer check runs there is the high-yield route in the same MICR line: the 26X MICR three-pack (CF226X). The 26A MICR cartridge for the M402 series (CF226A) covers the model-named listings.
