Frequently Asked Questions

What do the letters DN add to the Phaser 6500DN — and do they change the cartridge?

They describe the printer, not the supply. D stands for duplex — the machine turns the sheet over and prints the second side itself — and N for the built-in network connection. Neither feature touches the toner bay: the 6500DN takes the same black as every other model on this platform, part number 106R01597.

Does double-sided printing change how the page rating works?

The rating counts printed pages, not sheets of paper. A duplex job that puts text on both sides of a sheet is still two pages of toner, so the up-to-3,000-page rating of this cartridge measures out the same way whether your 6500DN is printing single-sided or double. What shrinks with duplexing is your paper bill, not the cartridge's count.

What does the black cost to run in this machine?

This listing is $31.95 for a cartridge rated at up to 3,000 pages — about 1.06 cents of toner per printed page. The rating assumes the standard 5% coverage of an ordinary text page; dense documents draw more per page, light ones less, so treat the figure as the comparison measure it is meant to be.

Is this listing one cartridge or several?

One. The name carries the plural "Cartridges" the way catalog names often do, but the box holds a single black 106R01597. If your duplex machine works hard enough that an empty black stops a room full of people, the family's multi-packs keep a spare on the shelf for less per cartridge.

Which printers share this cartridge with the 6500DN?

The rest of the platform: the base Phaser 6500, the Phaser 6500N, and the WorkCentre 6505 multifunction family. Xerox kept one black supply — 106R01597 — across the whole range, whatever the badge and suffix letters say.

What warranty and returns come with it?

A one-year warranty with free returns for a full year, under the terms published on our shipping and returns page. Parcels ship from IL, PA, GA and CA warehouses, support answers Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and the rest of the platform's supplies are collected on the Xerox toner page.

About This Phaser 6500DN Black Cartridge

Named for the duplex, networked member of the family: a single compatible 106R01597 black cartridge at $31.95, rated at up to 3,000 pages. The DN's extra hardware changes how the printer handles paper — the cartridge it asks for is the same one the whole platform shares.
