Frequently Asked Questions

The title says "Cartridges" — how many are in the box?

One. The plural is simply how this Phaser 6140 listing family is catalogued; what arrives is a single compatible black toner cartridge, the 106R01480, for $31.98. One cartridge is the complete answer to a printer asking for black — nothing else hides in the box and nothing else is needed.

How many pages should I expect from it?

This listing rates the cartridge at up to 2,500 pages at the standard 5% coverage, which works out to about 1.28 cents per rated page at $31.98. Treat the figure as a measuring stick rather than a promise: a month of light correspondence can stretch it well past the rating, while full-page graphics will pull it in sooner.

My black prints have gone grey and streaky. Is that the cartridge?

Almost certainly. Text that washes out grey, with pale bands running down solid areas, is the classic signature of a black cartridge in its final stretch — the printer itself rarely produces that pattern. A gentle rock of the cartridge can redistribute the last of the powder for a few more pages, but the lasting fix is a fresh 106R01480.

When is a single cartridge the right buy?

When the machine prints modestly, when the budget prefers small steps, or when you are trying this supply for the first time. Singles also suit printers that share duty with another machine. Heavier offices usually graduate to the multi-packs for the lower per-cartridge price, but there is no penalty for starting with one and judging the results.

Fitting it — anything to watch for?

It seats in the black slot at the front of the machine; the colour slots will not accept it, so there is no wrong place to put it. Remove the packing material, rock it gently a few times to level the toner, and slide it in until it sits home. Run one test page: dense, even black confirms everything is seated and feeding.

And if it disappoints?

Every cartridge is covered by a 1-year warranty with free returns for a full year, spelled out on our shipping and returns page. Orders ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, and help is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
