Frequently Asked Questions

How long does one cartridge realistically last in a small office?

At the rated 10,400 pages, a single cartridge covers roughly 10,000 average office documents — mostly letters, invoices and copied forms at normal text coverage. A two- or three-person office printing a few dozen pages a day typically gets several months out of one, while a busier front desk that copies all day will move through it noticeably faster.

Does making copies use the same toner as printing?

Yes — on the MP 401SPF, copying and printing both draw from this one black cartridge, so a morning of copying files counts against the same 10,400-page supply as your print jobs. Scanning and faxing to email use no toner at all, so heavy scanning habits stretch the cartridge further than most people expect.

What does a page actually cost with this cartridge?

At $42.41 for a single cartridge, the rated yield works out to about 0.41 cents per page before paper and electricity. That figure assumes standard text coverage; pages with large filled graphics or bold full-page tables will cost more per sheet because they lay down more toner.

Is this cartridge tied to just one printer model?

No — the listing names one machine, but this 841886 cartridge is made for the whole Ricoh MP 401SPF and SP 4510SF family, and every model in that platform takes the same cartridge. If your machine belongs to that family, this is the correct supply regardless of which model name appears in the listing title.

How will I know the cartridge is nearly empty?

The printer reports a low-toner warning well before output suffers, and the first visible sign is usually lighter text on copies, especially in large bold headings. Once the warning appears, ordering right away is wise — shipping runs from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, but a cartridge that runs dry mid-week still stops the machine.

What protection comes with the cartridge if something goes wrong?

Every cartridge is covered by a one-year warranty, and returns are free for a full year as well — the details are on our shipping and returns page. If you need help, support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
