Cross-reference: Ricoh 841886, the Type MP 401 black print cartridge (10,400 pages). This cartridge fits the Ricoh MP 401SPF, MP 402SPF and SP 4520DN — the same machines were also sold under the Savin and Lanier brands with the same model names.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our copies are coming out streaky and pale — is the toner to blame?

Often, yes. When an 841886 cartridge nears the end of its 10,400-page life, copies usually show it first: vertical light bands, gray instead of black text, and uneven density across the page. If a freshly installed cartridge restores solid blacks, the old one was simply spent — a normal wear pattern, not a machine fault.

Does scan-to-email really use zero toner?

It does. Scanning sends an electronic file and never touches the toner supply, which is why offices that digitize paperwork instead of copying it see cartridges last far longer. Only jobs that put marks on paper — printing, copying, and incoming paper faxes — draw down this cartridge.

What is the smartest moment to order a replacement?

When the printer's low-toner notice first appears, not when pages start fading. There is still toner left at that point, but it is the buffer meant for exactly this: place the order then and the new cartridge, shipped from our IL, PA, GA or CA warehouse, arrives before the machine runs dry.

The listing shows one model — what if my machine is its close sibling?

That is expected. The title names a single model, but this cartridge serves the complete Ricoh MP 401SPF and SP 4510SF platform, and the sibling models in that family all accept the same 841886 supply. Match the cartridge number rather than the exact title wording and you have the right part.

Can heavy fax traffic wear this cartridge out on its own?

Incoming faxes print on paper, so yes, a line that receives long fax documents all day consumes toner even if nobody prints a thing. Outgoing scans sent as email attachments cost nothing, but a fax-heavy office should count received pages when estimating how long 10,400 pages will last.

How long do I have if the cartridge disappoints me?

A full year. The cartridge is protected by a one-year warranty, and returns stay free for twelve months — see the shipping and returns page for the process. Questions are handled by our support team Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 5 PM CST.
