Frequently Asked Questions
Why does a color printer need yellow at all?
Yellow is the cartridge people underestimate. It builds every green and orange on the page, warms up photographs, and — less obviously — it is the color used for the tiny tracking dots color printers lay down, so it is consumed a little even on pages that look purely black and white. When yellow runs low on the SP C430DN, greens go blue, oranges go pink, and skin tones lose their warmth. This cartridge is rated at 24,000 pages, matching the other colors in the set, so one replacement keeps the balance of your color output where it should be.
Does this fit my printer?
Yes — this yellow cartridge is the 24,000-page color cartridge made for the Ricoh SP C430DN. The listing is for yellow only; cyan, magenta and black are separate items, and the black cartridge for this model is sold separately. Because several Ricoh color printers look alike, a quick check of the model name on your machine against this listing avoids an unnecessary return.
Why is this cartridge priced lower than the cyan and magenta singles?
You may notice the yellow single is $57.33, below the prices of the other color singles for this printer. Prices simply differ by color on this model; what does not differ is the rating — yellow is a full 24,000-page cartridge, the same yield class as cyan and magenta. At that price the yellow works out to about 0.24 cents per page, the lowest per-page figure of the three colors.
How far will 24,000 pages go in a real office?
The 24,000-page figure comes from the standard 5% coverage measurement. A month of memos with a small color logo barely touches a cartridge; a run of full-color brochures uses yellow at a much faster rate. Offices that print color daily usually see a cartridge last for months, and lighter users can see a year or more. The practical habit is simple: keep an eye on the machine's toner gauge and reorder when yellow first shows low, not when the printer stops mid-job.
What happens if I let yellow run completely empty?
The SP C430DN will pause color printing until the cartridge is replaced, and pages printed while yellow is fading can come out with odd color shifts that are easy to miss until a client sees them. Running a cartridge to absolute empty also risks a messy, low-quality final run of pages. Because this yellow single is the lowest-priced color for the machine, keeping one sealed spare on the shelf is inexpensive insurance against downtime.
What cover do I get with this cartridge?
It is backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, set out on our shipping and returns page. Orders are dispatched from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and our support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST if a cartridge misbehaves or you want a hand confirming you have the right color for your model.
