Frequently Asked Questions

We hardly print anything yellow — so why is the yellow cartridge the one that's empty?

Because yellow is a hidden ingredient in far more than yellow objects. Every green, every warm background, every skin tone and most photographic highlights are built partly from yellow, so it is consumed steadily by documents that don't look yellow at all. In many offices it is genuinely the first color to run out, ahead of cyan and magenta.

How does print quality change as yellow fades?

Subtly at first, which is why it gets missed. Greens turn blue-ish, warm tones go cold, and photographs lose their sunlight — everything looks slightly refrigerated. Because yellow is the lightest color, a low cartridge rarely produces dramatic streaks; it produces a slow, office-wide suspicion that the machine "isn't printing like it used to."

How far does one yellow cartridge go in a typical department?

The rating is 18,000 pages at 5% coverage, and at $81.74 that's about 0.45 cents per page. A department printing a few hundred color pages a month is looking at well over a year from one cartridge; a team producing color handouts daily will move through it much faster. Note the black cartridge in this family is rated higher, at 29,500 pages, so the colors and the black simply live on different clocks.

Yellow is empty and a deadline job is queued — what are our options?

The practical answer is a spare on the shelf before it happens: a sealed yellow cartridge stores for a long time and swaps in minutes. If you're caught without one, black-and-white work is unaffected by an empty color in day-to-day terms, and a fresh order ships from whichever of our warehouses — IL, PA, GA or CA — gets it to you fastest.

The title names a single model — does this yellow fit only that one?

No — the 841814 yellow is a platform cartridge for the Ricoh Aficio MP C3003/C3503 family, and the listing is titled for one model while the cartridge itself serves the whole platform. It works with: Aficio MP C3003, Aficio MP C3004, Aficio MP C3503 and Aficio MP C3504

What's the return situation if I order the wrong cartridge?

You're covered: returns are free for a full year, and the cartridge also carries a one-year warranty — the complete policy is on our shipping & returns page. If you're unsure before ordering, our support team answers Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST.
