Frequently Asked Questions

Why do reds and skin tones start looking wrong before the machine says magenta is empty?

Because magenta does the heavy lifting in the warm half of the color wheel. As its output thins, reds go orange and dull, faces in photos turn gray-green, and brand reds drift off-shade — all while the toner gauge still shows a sliver left. If the complaint is about how people and logos look rather than about washed-out blues, magenta is where to look first.

What does a page of color actually cost with this cartridge?

Magenta is rated at 18,000 pages and priced at $81.74, which works out to roughly 0.45 cents per page at the standard 5% coverage measurement. Dense marketing pieces with full-bleed backgrounds will cost more per page than that figure suggests; a memo with a red logo costs a fraction of it. The rating is a comparison yardstick, not a promise about any single document.

We print almost everything in black and white — will we ever change this cartridge?

Rarely, and that's normal. Magenta is only laid down for color content, so a text-heavy office may go a very long time between magenta changes — the black cartridge in this family, rated at 29,500 pages, does nearly all the work. The color cartridges still deserve an occasional glance at the levels screen, because the one color handout of the quarter will find the empty one.

Should I keep a spare magenta on the shelf, or order when it runs out?

It depends on how color-critical your work is. A spare on the shelf costs nothing to store — sealed toner keeps well in a cool, dry cabinet — and it turns a mid-job failure on a presentation deadline into a two-minute swap. Offices that print color only incidentally can reasonably order on demand instead; orders leave our warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA.

Is this magenta made for just the model in the listing title?

It isn't. The 841815 magenta is a cartridge for the whole Ricoh Aficio MP C3003/C3503 platform — the listing is titled for a single model, but the same cartridge fits every machine on that platform. It works with: Aficio MP C3003, Aficio MP C3004, Aficio MP C3503 and Aficio MP C3504

How are warranty and returns handled on this cartridge?

Simply: a one-year warranty covers the cartridge, and you have a full year to return it free if it isn't right — details live on our shipping & returns page. Keep the packaging until you've run a few color pages and confirmed the reds look the way they should.
