Frequently Asked Questions

I print in bursts — weeks of nothing, then a stack of essays. Will toner go stale in the printer?

No. Toner is a dry powder, not a liquid, so it does not dry out or clog the way ink does during quiet weeks. A W2060A installed in September is still ready for finals week in December, which makes it a forgiving choice for student printing.

How do I confirm this is the black cartridge for my machine?

Match the code. The black slot in HP's 150-series printers and the MFP 170 series takes the W2060A, sold as the 116A black. The old cartridge's label shows the same code, and it is also printed in the printer's supplies status page.

What yield does it carry?

Up to 1,000 pages per cartridge. For coursework — lecture slides, readings, drafts — that is typically a semester or more of printing from a single $38.46 cartridge.

Does the printer need the colors replaced at the same time?

No. Black and each color are independent cartridges. If your cyan runs out in October, this black listing has nothing to do with it, and replacing only the empty one is the normal routine.

Is installation something a non-technical person can do?

Easily. The cartridge lifts out and drops in through the top door in under a minute, with no tools and nothing to configure afterward.

What happens if I receive a dud?

It is backed by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns. Support is staffed Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM CST, and orders ship from warehouses in IL, PA, GA and CA, so a replacement does not cross the whole country to reach you.

About This Cartridge

Dorm and apartment printers sit idle more than they print, and that rhythm suits toner perfectly. This compatible 116A black keeps a Color LaserJet 150a or one of its MFP siblings ready for the sudden 40-page reading packet at midnight. See the shipping and returns page for how orders travel, and browse the rest of the HP section when the colors eventually need attention too. The whole 116A platform is just five machines: Color LaserJet 150a, Color LaserJet 150nw, Color LaserJet 178nw, Color LaserJet 178nwg, and Color LaserJet 179fnw — and every one of them runs on this same cartridge family. Shopping the family one slot at a time works as well: 116A cyan cartridge (W2061A), 116A magenta cartridge (W2063A) and 116A yellow cartridge (W2062A) each have their own listing, or take all four at once in the 116A four-color set. Black runs out first in most offices, so it also comes as a 116A black 2 pack.
