Frequently Asked Questions

• How many pages does the HP C2P04AN print?

HP rates the C2P04AN at about 200 pages under ISO/IEC 24711 test conditions, printing standard pages at around 5% coverage. Your own count will move with coverage, paper and settings — dense colour pages use far more ink than plain text.

• Which printers take the C2P04AN?

It fits ENVY 5540, ENVY 5542, ENVY 5544, ENVY 5545 and 29 more. The complete verified list is in the Compatible Printers section on this page — check your model there before ordering.

• Black or tri-color — do I need both?

The printer needs both slots filled to print. The black cartridge prints text; the tri-color holds cyan, magenta and yellow in one body — when one colour runs out, the tri-color cartridge is replaced as a unit.

• Where is the printhead on this cartridge?

Built into the cartridge itself. Every swap fits a fresh printhead, which is why a new cartridge often clears streaks and missing colours that cleaning cycles could not fix on these models.

• Standard or XL — which should I buy?

This is the standard-yield cartridge, rated at about 200 pages. If you print every week, the XL version of the same colour works out cheaper per page; for a lightly used printer, this size avoids ink sitting unused.

• Is the C2P04AN pigment or dye ink?

It is pigment ink — the same ink technology HP uses in the original C2P04AN — so text stays sharp and resists water and highlighter smear.

• Does this cartridge have a chip?

Yes — a new compatible chip that reports ink levels to the printer, so the low-ink warnings keep working. It is not a refilled original shell with a reset chip.

• My printer shows a warning after installing — what do I do?

Acknowledge the on-screen message, reseat the cartridge until it clicks, and restart the printer. If the warning persists, wipe the gold chip contacts with a dry lint-free cloth and reinstall.

• My printer came with setup cartridges — can I use this 62?

Yes. Setup cartridges are only for the printer's first initialisation; once the printer has been set up, standard retail cartridges like this 62 are what it takes.

• Can I mix this cartridge with original HP cartridges?

Yes. Each slot is read independently, so a compatible black alongside original colours (or the other way round) prints normally.

• Is this an original HP cartridge?

No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible cartridge built to the C2P04AN specification and covered by our lifetime warranty. It is not manufactured by HP; the HP name appears only to identify the printers it fits.

• What if the cartridge leaks, is not recognised or prints badly?

Stop and contact us — do not keep printing on a faulty cartridge. The lifetime warranty covers recognition failures, leaks and print-quality defects: we replace the cartridge or refund you.
