Every 512 printer carries two blacks, and they are not spares for each other. This bottle — T512120-S — is the Photo Black: 70 mL of dye ink whose entire job is what happens inside a photograph. Where the pigment black (T512020-S) is built for text, photo black lays down the smooth, glossy shadow tones that make a printed photo look like a photo: deep blacks that stay neutral, gradients that don't band, night scenes that don't wash out to gray.

Dye is the right chemistry for that work. It soaks into photo paper evenly and blends with the dye cyan, magenta and yellow around it, which is why the 512 family splits its blacks the way camera ink sets have always split them — pigment for documents, dye for images.
One honest note on numbers: Epson does not publish a separate page yield for this bottle, and we are not going to invent one. (You will see figures elsewhere; they are not Epson's.) What is verifiable is on this page: 70 mL of dye photo black ink, keyed for the photo black tank of the ET-7700 and ET-7750, no chip, auto-stop EcoFit fill.
And the family's standing warning, because this bottle is where it bites: T512120 is Photo Black. If you need the document black, you want T512020 — the codes differ by one digit and the inks differ completely. Every Clever Supplies bottle carries our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is photo black actually for?
Photographs. The photo black dye produces the deep, neutral blacks and smooth shadow gradations in glossy photo prints. Text and everyday documents are the pigment black bottle's job (T512020-S).
Why doesn't this page list a page yield?
Because Epson doesn't publish one for this bottle. Its specification sheet gives a volume (70 mL) but no separate Photo Black yield. Rather than copy an unverifiable number from a reseller, we leave the figure out — the ink usage of a photo black depends almost entirely on how much photography you print.
Can I put this in the black tank, or the black bottle in this tank?
Neither. Each 512 bottle is keyed to its own tank position, so the nozzles physically won't swap — and the formulas are different inks (dye here, pigment in the black bottle).
My printer says the photo black is low but regular black is full. Do I need both?
You need this one. The printer draws photo black for photo printing independently of the document black tank; a full T512020 bottle doesn't substitute for an empty T512120.
Which printers does this fit?
The Expression Premium ET-7700 and ET-7750 — the only two 512 models, verified against Epson's own ink pages and specification sheet.
Is photo black dye or pigment?
Dye. Epson's documentation describes the 512 split plainly: pigment for the Black position, dye for Photo Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow.
Will my black-and-white photos look better with this bottle fresh?
That's exactly its role: black-and-white and dark-toned color prints lean on photo black for their shadow range. A depleted photo black tank is the usual reason B&W prints start looking flat or slightly green.
Does it have a chip?
No. Bottles are chipless; the keyed nozzle is a mechanical fit and the fill auto-stops at full. Nothing electronic can be "rejected."
How is this different from the 502 or 522 black bottles?
Different family, different keying, different job. The 502 black is a single pigment bottle for text-led printers; the 522 black is dye. Neither fits a 512 printer, and this bottle fits neither of theirs.
Storage advice for a half-used bottle?
Seal the cap, store upright at room temperature away from sunlight.
Is this genuine Epson ink?
No. It is a Clever Supplies compatible bottle made to the T512120-S specification and labeled as compatible — not an Epson-manufactured product.
What cover do I get?
Our lifetime warranty on the bottle, plus free returns within the first year.
