This is the black cartridge Epson built for lighter printing: the T124120-S, Moderate capacity, rated up to 190 pages (ISO/IEC 24711) in DURABrite Ultra pigment ink. Our Clever Supplies compatible matches that specification — same tier, same yield class, a new chip on the front — for the eleven printers Epson lists for the 124 family: Stylus NX125, NX127, NX130, NX230, NX330, NX420 and NX430, plus WorkForce 320, 323, 325 and 435.

Moderate is a real tier, not a lesser cartridge. Epson's own guides describe the 124 line as "for lighter use," and for a printer that wakes up a few times a month it is the right-sized buy: you pay for the ink you will actually use before an opened cartridge ages. If your printer works every week, look at its Standard-tier sibling instead where your model offers one — the 124's cyan (T124220-S), magenta (T124320-S) and yellow (T124420-S) partners on this page are rated about 175 pages each, and the 4-cartridge set below resets the whole printer in the same tier.

One chip note, stated plainly because this platform depends on it: this cartridge carries a new compatible chip. If your printer's firmware has been updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur with any compatible chip — if that ever happens with ours, contact us; the cartridge is covered by our lifetime warranty, with free returns for the first year.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What does "Moderate capacity" actually mean?

It is Epson's name for the 124 tier: a cartridge with less ink than the Standard tier, made for lighter use. This black is rated up to 190 pages (ISO/IEC 24711). Same printer slots, same DURABrite Ultra pigment ink — just a smaller fill.

Which printers does this black cartridge fit?

    The eleven models Epson lists for the 124 family: Stylus NX125, NX127, NX130, NX230, NX330, NX420, NX430 and WorkForce 320, 323, 325, 435.

My printer is a Stylus NX530. Can I use it?

No. The NX530 belongs to the platform's other branch — it takes 125 Standard (and 127 above it), never 124. The same applies to the NX625 and the WorkForce 520.

Is the ink pigment or dye?

Pigment — DURABrite Ultra in all four colors of this platform. It dries instantly and resists water and highlighter smearing far better than dye ink, which is why these cartridges suit document printers.

    Does it have a chip?

Yes — a new compatible chip, like the genuine cartridge's Intellidge-style chip. Do not touch the green chip on the front; that contact is how the printer reads the cartridge.

The printer says the cartridge is not recognized. What now?

Reseat it firmly and restart the printer. If your printer's firmware was recently updated, recognition issues can occasionally occur with compatible chips. If it persists, contact us — the lifetime warranty covers a cartridge that won't perform.

How is this different from the 125 black?

Capacity. The 125 black (T125120-S) is the Standard tier at up to 230 pages against this one's 190 — but the 125 only fits eight of this cartridge's eleven printers. The NX330, NX430 and WorkForce 435 never take 125; their step-up is the 126 family.

Can I run this 124 black next to 125 color cartridges?

On the eight core models that accept both tiers (NX125–NX420 Stylus, WorkForce 320/323/325), yes — tiers can be mixed cartridge by cartridge. On the NX330, NX430 and WorkForce 435, only 124 (and 126) cartridges belong.

How long does an opened cartridge stay good?

Epson's guides for this platform advise using up a cartridge within about six months of opening the package. Unopened spares keep sealed, upright, at room temperature.

Will my ink levels read correctly?

Epson's own manuals note that with non-genuine cartridges the ink level display may not be accurate. Treat the printer's low-ink warning as approximate with any compatible cartridge, ours included.

Is this a genuine Epson cartridge?

No — it is a Clever Supplies compatible built to the T124120-S specification, labeled compatible on the box and on this page. It is not manufactured by Epson.

What warranty and returns do I get?

A lifetime warranty — a cartridge that fails to perform is replaced — plus free returns within the first year.
