Frequently Asked Questions

Why does color look better after changing all four cartridges together?

Because color printing is a four-part balance. Your MF8350 or MF8380 mixes black (2662B001AA), cyan (2661B001AA), magenta (2660B001AA) and yellow (2659B001AA) on every page, so when one cartridge is nearly empty and the other three are part-worn, the mix drifts no matter which single cartridge you replace. A full set puts four cartridges of the same age in the machine at once, and the balance the printer was calibrated around comes back — skin tones stop going green, and logos print the colors they're supposed to.

What are the page ratings across the set?

They differ by slot, and it's worth knowing which is which: the black cartridge is rated at up to 3,400 pages, while each of the three colors is rated at up to 2,900 pages. Those are per-cartridge figures at the standard 5% coverage — the colors are not simply smaller versions of the black, and in a color-heavy office a color can still empty first despite the lower rating on paper.

How long does one set realistically last an MF8580Cdw in a small office?

Work it from your meter, not from hope. At 300 pages a month the black alone stretches past ten months; at 800 pages a month you're looking at roughly four. Offices printing mostly black documents with occasional color will drain the black first; offices printing brochures and presentations will find the colors keeping pace. Checking your machine's page counter once and doing this division honestly beats any estimate we could print here.

What if only the black has run out — am I wasting money on a set?

Not necessarily. Install the black now and keep the three colors sealed as your spares; nothing about the set expires because you opened the box. When a color does call for replacement — and on these machines one always does eventually — it's on your shelf instead of in a delivery van. Buying the four together at $110.04 also works out to about $27.51 a cartridge, less than chasing them one at a time.

What protection comes with these cartridges?

The same as everything we sell: a 1-year warranty against defects and 1-year free returns if a cartridge doesn't perform as it should. If one color in the set misbehaves, that's the cartridge we deal with — the other three stay in your machine. Full terms are on our shipping and returns page, and you can reach support Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

Any storage advice for the cartridges we're not fitting straight away?

Sealed, flat, cool and dry — and out of sunlight. Toner cartridges wait patiently, but heat and a crushed box seal do them no favors. Write the month of arrival on each box and install oldest first; that one habit prevents the classic supply-cupboard discovery of a cartridge nobody remembers buying.
