Frequently Asked Questions

Why does this set contain no black cartridge?

Because the black lives on a completely different clock. The sibling black cartridge, 046HBK, is rated at up to 6,300 pages and gets replaced on its own rhythm — usually bought as a single or in black multi-packs. This set exists for the other moment: when the colors need attention together. It holds the three Canon 046H color cartridges — 046HC cyan, 046HM magenta and 046HY yellow, each rated at up to 5,000 pages — so you can refresh the color side of the machine without paying for a black you do not need yet.

What does the set save against the three colors bought singly?

The three Canon 046H color singles total $109.41. This set is $72.42, so you save $36.99 — about a third — and the average cost per color cartridge falls to roughly $24.14. Whenever two or more colors are running low in the same season, the set beats buying them one at a time, and the third cartridge is effectively discounted for arriving in the same box.

Do the three colors really run out at the same time?

Rarely on the same day, but they travel together. Any color page draws on cyan, magenta and yellow at once, so the three slots age in step even if they do not empty in step. Offices that print color regularly find the warnings arrive within weeks of each other; that is the moment this set is priced for. If only one color is low and the other two are nearly new, buy that color singly and save the set for later.

How are these different from the standard Canon 046 colors?

Yield. These are the Canon 046H high-yield colors at up to 5,000 pages each; the standard Canon 046 colors are rated at 2,300 pages, and in this store the standard singles sit at the same prices as the 046H singles. Same spend per cartridge, more than double the pages — which is why the H colors are the sensible default for any machine printing color most weeks.

Can we fit one color now and hold the other two back?

Yes. Each cartridge is individually sealed, and the slots work independently — a new 046HY can run beside a part-used cyan and magenta. Keep the unfitted cartridges sealed, flat and out of sunlight and heat until their slots call for them. There is no requirement to change all three together just because they shipped together.

What cover do these color cartridges carry?

Each is a compatible cartridge with its own 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns — if one color ever misbehaves, it is dealt with on its own, not by returning the trio. The detail is on our shipping and returns page. Orders leave from the nearest of our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California warehouses, and support is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
