Frequently Asked Questions

How does the maths of this 2-pack compare with buying two singles?

Two Canon 045H singles bought separately would cost you $64.98. This 2-pack is $46.49 — $23.25 per cartridge instead of $32.49, a saving of $18.49 across the pair. Between them the two 045HBK cartridges are rated for up to 5,600 pages, which pulls your per-page cost down from about 1.16 cents on a single to roughly 0.83 cents. Nothing about the cartridges changes; you are simply paying less per unit for ordering the pair together.

How far does 5,600 pages stretch for a small office?

An office printing about 400 black pages a month is covered for well over a year — around fourteen months. At 1,000 pages a month the pair lasts about five to six months. Each cartridge is rated at 2,800 pages at the standard 5% coverage measure, so heavily printed pages will trim those timelines somewhat and light text pages will stretch them.

Will the second cartridge still be good when I open it months from now?

Yes, provided it stays sealed in its packaging. Toner is a dry powder and does not dry out or expire the way liquid ink does. Store the box flat in a cool, dry cupboard, out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, and the cartridge will be ready to print when the first one runs out. Only break the seal when you are actually about to install it.

Can the two cartridges go into two different printers?

They can. Both units in the pack are the standard Canon 045HBK cartridge, and the 045H serves the ImageClass LBP612Cdw, ImageClass MF632Cdw and ImageClass MF634Cdw. Split the pack between two machines, keep both for one busy printer, or put one in each of two offices — the cartridges are identical and individually packaged, so the choice is yours.

How does this pack compare with the standard Canon 045 2-pack?

Honestly, it wins on the numbers. The standard-yield Canon 045 2-pack is priced at the same $46.49, but its two cartridges are rated at 1,400 pages each — 2,800 pages in total. This high-yield pack totals 5,600 pages for the identical spend, because every 045HBK is a 2,800-page cartridge. Same money, double the output; the standard pack only makes sense if you specifically want standard-yield cartridges.

What if one of the two cartridges turns out to be faulty?

Each cartridge is covered on its own. Both come under our 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so a cartridge that fails in its first year — including the spare you only open months later — can be sent back without it costing you anything, and using the first cartridge does not affect the cover on the second. The details are on our shipping and returns page.
