Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a Canon-made cartridge or a compatible alternative?

A compatible alternative. This cartridge is built to match the Canon 045H — designated 045HBK in black — in fit, in its 2,800-page yield rating and in the job it does inside the printer, but it is manufactured by a third-party producer rather than by Canon. That distinction is the reason for the price: a high-yield black at $32.49 instead of name-brand money. It is sold openly as a compatible, and it is backed by the cover described further down this page.

Why does the high-yield version cost the same as the standard one here?

It is simply how our shelf is priced, and it makes the choice easy. Our standard Canon 045 black is also $32.49, but it is rated at 1,400 pages; this Canon 045H is rated at 2,800. Run the numbers and the standard cartridge costs about 2.32 cents a page while this one costs roughly 1.16 cents. If both cartridges are in your basket, keep the 045HBK — at equal prices there is no argument for half the pages.

What page count should I plan around?

Up to 2,800 pages, the rated yield of the Canon 045H black at the industry-standard 5% page coverage. A cartridge that spends its life on letters, invoices and reports will finish somewhere near that figure. One spent on dense documents with big graphics will finish sooner — coverage, not the calendar, decides when a cartridge empties. Compared like for like, this cartridge is rated to last exactly twice as long as the standard 045 in the same machine.

Which printers is the 045HBK for?

The Canon color machines built around the 045 family: the ImageClass LBP612Cdw, the ImageClass MF632Cdw and the ImageClass MF634Cdw. This listing is the black cartridge; the cyan, magenta and yellow 045H cartridges for those printers are listed separately. If your machine's current black reads 045H or 045HBK on its label, this is its direct replacement.

What if the print quality is not what we expect?

Then the cover does its work. Every cartridge we sell is protected by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns: a cartridge that prints poorly, fails early or simply turns out to be the wrong order can be sent back within the year without costing you anything. Our support team is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the full terms are on our shipping and returns page.

How quickly will the cartridge reach us?

We hold stock in four warehouses — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California — and dispatch from the one nearest your address, so most orders land within a few business days rather than the far end of the week. Order before the current cartridge gives out and the swap is a two-minute job with no gap in printing at all.
