Frequently Asked Questions
Why do warm colors fall apart first when the yellow cartridge starts to fade?
Because warm colors are yellow's constructions. Orange is magenta plus yellow, a true red needs its yellow component, and greens are cyan meeting yellow halfway. As the TN431Y's fill thins out, those mixtures lose a leg: oranges go rusty, reds turn cold and pinkish, greens slide blue. Cool colors — blues, purples — barely notice, which is why the damage looks selective and confusing until you know the recipe.
How do I check the yellow level when the prints still look normal?
Don't trust your eye — yellow fades are the last ones documents reveal. Use the machine's supplies screen or print its test page and read the yellow band directly against the other three. If the printer's counter says the TN431Y is in its last stretch, believe the counter and order against it; on this platform a cartridge can go from 'low' to 'stop' inside one busy week.
Should I step up to the high-yield TN433 yellow instead?
The TN433 colors are the high-yield row for these same machines: larger fills, fewer swaps, lower cost per page, bigger bill on the day. If your color printing is a weekly habit, the step-up pays for itself across the cartridge's life. If color is monthly and modest, this TN431Y at $114.61 keeps the commitment proportionate — the honest test is how many of these you would buy in the time one high-yield lasts.
What am I paying per page for this cartridge?
$114.61 across a 1,800-page rating is about 6.4 cents a page at standard coverage — the same figure as its cyan and magenta siblings, since the three colors share a price and a rating in this family. Against its $160.45 list price, the cartridge itself is discounted by $45.84, which is the comparison that matters for a sealed genuine unit.
What cover comes with the TN431Y?
Returns run for 30 days from delivery in every case, and the warranty is Brother's manufacturer warranty. You'll find both spelled out on our shipping and returns page. Support is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST if you'd rather have a human confirm the code first.
