Frequently Asked Questions

Our printer mostly prints invoices — what is cyan even doing in it?

Quietly coloring the paperwork. The blue in the company logo, the shaded table headers, the chart in the quarterly report, the color in a scanned signature stamp — all of it draws on the TN431C. Offices are often surprised by how much cyan a 'mostly mono' printer uses, because color creeps into documents one logo at a time while black does the visible bulk of the work.

How does the TN431C compare with the high-yield TN433 line?

The TN433 colors are the high-capacity counterparts of this cartridge for the same nine machines — bigger fills, fewer changeovers, and a lower cost per page in exchange for a larger ticket. This TN431C, rated at 1,800 pages for $114.61 (about 6.4 cents a page), is the moderate-commitment option: the right call when color volume is genuine but not relentless.

Which models use the TN431C?

HL-L8260CDW, HL-L8360CDW, HL-L8360CDWT, HL-L9310CDW, HL-L9310CDWT and HL-L9310CDWTT printers, with the MFC-L8610CDW, MFC-L8900CDW and MFC-L9570CDW multifunctions — nine models in all. The cartridge fills the cyan slot and pairs with either yield class in the neighbouring slots.

Our blues have started printing purple — is the cyan at fault?

Almost certainly. Blue is cyan plus magenta; starve the mixture of cyan and the same file drifts purple, while greens lose their freshness at the same time. Print a test page: if the cyan band is pale or broken where magenta and yellow print solid, the TN431C is at the end of its fill and replacing it — alone, no need to touch the others — puts the blues back.

Is $114.61 reasonable for a 1,800-page cartridge?

Set it against the cartridge's own list price of $160.45: you are paying $45.84 less for the same sealed Brother unit. Genuine color toner at this yield is premium stock wherever it is sold, so the sane test is genuine-for-genuine against list — and on that test this price is a straightforward discount, not a markup dressed as one.

What are the return terms on this cartridge?

You have 30 days from delivery to return it, in all cases, and cover after that is Brother's manufacturer warranty. The two are set out in full on our shipping and returns page. If a code question comes up before you order, support is available Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.
