Frequently Asked Questions
Why do presentation decks burn through magenta faster than the other colors?
Because slides are magenta-heavy documents. Title bars, accent shapes, chart series, the gradient backgrounds nobody counts — presentation graphics lay down broad areas of color where a text page lays down almost none, and magenta is the workhorse of the warm half of every palette. A team that prints its decks will meet the TN431M's low warning long before the cyan's, and that is arithmetic, not a defect.
What happens to skin tones as this cartridge fades?
They go green-gray and waxy. Faces are built mostly from magenta and yellow, so a fading TN431M drains the warmth out of complexions while leaving blues and blacks untouched — the printout looks like everyone in the photo is unwell. If the people in your prints look seasick but the charts look fine, suspect this cartridge before anything else in the machine.
The printer says magenta is low — do I buy the single or the color set?
Buy what the levels tell you. If magenta is low and cyan and yellow are reporting comfortable margins, this single at $114.61 is the whole answer. The color set starts to make sense when all three colors are ageing together — which happens when they were installed together — because then the set's saving is real and you take one interruption instead of three.
What does a color page actually cost on the TN431M?
At the rated 1,800 pages and the $114.61 price, roughly 6.4 cents of magenta per page — at the standard test coverage. Real presentation pages can lay down several times that coverage, which is why a deck-heavy office experiences this cartridge as shorter-lived than the rating suggests. The rating's job is comparison: it is the same yardstick every genuine cartridge is measured with.
How do I return this cartridge if something's wrong?
Within 30 days of delivery it comes back to us, whatever the issue, and the product warranty behind it is Brother's manufacturer warranty — both points are published on our shipping and returns page. Genuine Brother stock runs on those OEM terms rather than the cover attached to our compatible range.
