What makes this the MICR version of the 106R01412?

What is MICR toner used for?
Printing checks in-house on blank check stock. The line along the bottom of a check — the routing and account numbers — has to be printed in magnetic toner so bank reader-sorters can process it, and that is the line this cartridge exists to print. Businesses use it to produce their own payroll and accounts-payable checks instead of ordering pre-printed stock.
Will my bank accept checks printed with this cartridge?
We will not promise that, and you should be wary of any seller who does. Acceptance depends on your bank, its readers and how your checks come off the printer — no toner seller can guarantee another institution's equipment. The sensible route: fit the cartridge, print a small test batch first, and have those sample checks verified before you commit to a full check run.
Does the MICR version give up any page yield?
No. It carries the same high-yield rating as the standard 106R01412 — up to 8,000 pages — at the same $89.31, which works out to roughly 1.12 cents per page. For check printing that figure is worth pausing on: a "page" here is a sheet of checks, so the toner cost per individual check is a fraction of that cent figure.
Should this be my everyday cartridge as well?
It is better kept for its purpose. MICR toner is the fill your check runs need; ordinary letters and reports gain nothing from it. Most check printers keep the standard 106R01412 in the machine for daily work and swap this cartridge in for check batches, then swap back — the change takes a minute and keeps each toner doing its own job.
