Frequently Asked Questions

Faces in our printed photos look sunburnt and the reds have turned orange — is magenta the problem?

Almost certainly. Red is built from magenta plus yellow, and skin tones lean on magenta for their warmth; when the CLT-M407S thins out, reds drift orange and faces take on that over-tanned look while blues and greens stay roughly right. A cartridge whose color error shows up mainly in reds and pinks is a magenta cartridge at the end of its supply.

We print flyers with big solid magenta backgrounds — what does that do to the page rating?

It shortens it considerably. The CLT-M407S is rated at 1,000 pages at light standard coverage, but a full-bleed background can lay down many times that coverage on every sheet, so a run of a few hundred flyers may consume what looked like a thousand-page cartridge. At $38.42 — around 3.8 cents per rated page — heavy-coverage work is best planned with a spare already on the shelf.

Do I have to replace all three colors when only the magenta has run out?

No. Each color in this printer is its own cartridge, and the CLT-M407S can be swapped on its own without touching the cyan or yellow. Replacing only the empty color is the normal routine; changing the whole set at once is a choice some owners make for balanced color, not a requirement the printer imposes.

How can I be certain this is the magenta and not the cyan or yellow?

Check the code printed on the cartridge you remove: magenta reads CLT-M407S, the M being the marker. The family's cyan and yellow carry C and Y in that slot instead, and the black is a K code — the cartridges look alike on the shelf, so the letter in the code is the reliable identifier.

Which Samsung models use this magenta cartridge?

The CLT-M407S goes into the CLP-320, CLP-320N, CLP-321N, CLP-325, CLP-325W and CLP-326 printers, together with the CLX-3180, CLX-3185FW and CLX-3185N multifunctions. Its black, cyan and yellow companions for the same machines are listed separately in our Samsung compatible catalogue.

What happens if this cartridge arrives faulty or prints badly?

It is covered like every Clever Supplies compatible: a one-year warranty, with returns free throughout the first year — send a faulty CLT-M407S back and the return shipping is on us. The process is described on our shipping & returns page; deliveries ship from Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia or California, and support is on hand Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

About This Samsung CLT-M407S Magenta Toner Cartridge

Priced at $38.42 and rated at 1,000 pages, the CLT-M407S is the magenta cartridge for Samsung's CLP-32x and CLX-318x compact color lasers. Magenta carries the warm half of everything these printers produce — reds, pinks, purples and the living tones in photographs — which is why its decline is so visible in faces and food and branding long before the cartridge is fully empty. This compatible replacement is sold with a one-year warranty and free returns across the first year, so restoring the warm side of your printer's palette is a risk-free swap.
