Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the black cartridge empty long before the colors on our machine?

Because black does the heavy lifting. Letters, invoices, reports and contracts are almost entirely black toner even when they leave a color printer, while cyan, magenta and yellow are only spent on the graphics and images inside those documents. On a color platform the CLT-K609S is the cartridge your everyday paperwork draws on, so it is normally the first of the four to need changing.

What does one printed page cost with this cartridge?

The CLT-K609S costs $70.71 and is rated at 7,000 pages, which works out at roughly 1.01 cents of black toner per page at standard coverage. That per-page figure is the honest way to compare it with any other black cartridge for the same machine — the shelf price alone tells you nothing until you divide it by the yield.

Which printers is this black cartridge made for?

This listing is the black supply for the Samsung CLP-770ND. The same machine also takes separate cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges — the CLT-C609S, CLT-M609S and CLT-Y609S — and each color is replaced independently as it runs down, so you only ever change the one that is actually empty.

How long will 7,000 pages last a typical office?

It depends entirely on your monthly volume. An office printing about 500 pages a month would take well over a year to work through one CLT-K609S; a busier desk printing 2,000 pages a month would finish it in around three to four months. Your printer's page counter, checked a month apart, gives you the real number to plan with.

What does the 7,000-page rating actually assume?

The rating is measured at around five percent page coverage — roughly a page of ordinary text. Documents carrying charts, shaded tables or images lay down far more toner per page, so a graphics-heavy workload will land below the rated figure. That is the coverage talking, not a short-filled cartridge; text-based offices usually finish close to the rating.
