Frequently Asked Questions

Our MB461 prints and copies all day — how does that change how long this cartridge lasts?

Every page that comes out of the machine counts, whether it started as a print job or a copy made at the glass. The 44574701 is rated at 4,000 pages, so an MB461 that prints 300 pages and copies 200 more in a month is really a 500-page-a-month machine, and the cartridge will last about eight months — not the thirteen months the print count alone would suggest. Count total output pages, not just computer print jobs, when you plan replacements.

What cartridge does the MB461 take?

The 44574701 black cartridge, $28.45, which works out to about 0.71 cents per page. It is the same cartridge used by the MB471, MB471W, and B431d, so in an office with a mix of these machines, spares are interchangeable.

Do faxes and scans use toner too?

Scanning uses no toner at all, and a fax that arrives electronically uses none either. Only a fax that the MB461 actually prints onto paper draws from the cartridge. It is a small distinction, but in a fax-heavy office the printed faxes belong in your monthly page total.

Is this the original Oki cartridge for the MB461?

No — it is a compatible cartridge manufactured to the 44574701 specification, rated for the same 4,000 pages. It is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, with the terms laid out on our shipping and returns page.

How do I swap the cartridge in an MB461?

Open the front cover, pull the old cartridge straight out, rock the new one gently to distribute the toner, remove the seal, and slide it in until it locks. Copies are usually the first place low toner shows — they come out gray and washed — so a test copy after the swap is a good confirmation.

Where does my order ship from?

From whichever warehouse — Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, or California — is nearest and stocked, so most orders arrive in a few business days. For a shared office machine like the MB461, keeping one spare on the shelf is worthwhile. Help is available Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST, and the full selection is on our Okidata toner page.
