Frequently Asked Questions

Will a compatible cartridge print as dark and sharp as the original in my B431DN?

That is the standard it is built to meet. This compatible 44574701 is rated at 4,000 pages, the same rating as the original specification, and in normal office work — letters, invoices, reports — output density and edge sharpness are what you would expect from the printer. If a cartridge ever falls short of that, it is covered by a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, so you are not stuck with it.

What does the per-page cost look like?

At $28.45 for a 4,000-page rating, you are paying about 0.71 cents per page, or roughly $7.11 per thousand pages. That is the honest comparison number to put against any other cartridge you are considering for the B431DN.

Which cartridge number belongs in the B431DN?

The 44574701. The same cartridge is also used by the MB461 MFP, MB471, MB471W, and B431d, so a workplace running several of these machines can standardize on a single cartridge and a single spare.

How will I know the compatible cartridge has seated correctly?

It slides in along the same guides as the original and settles with a firm, even fit — no forcing required. If you have to push hard, stop and check the orientation rather than muscling it in. A correctly seated cartridge is also the one that produces even density across the page from the first print.

What if I install it and the first pages look light?

Remove the cartridge and rock it gently side to side to spread the toner, then reinstall. Toner can settle during shipping, and the first pages after storage sometimes need that redistribution. If output is still light after that, contact us — the warranty and return terms are on our shipping and returns page, and support is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST.

How quickly can I get one?

Orders leave from the closest of our Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and California warehouses, so most B431DN owners see delivery in a few business days. You can find cartridges for the rest of this printer family on our Okidata toner page.
