What makes this cartridge different from a regular 49X?
The toner inside it. This is the MICR version of the Q5949X — priced at $107.80 — loaded with magnetic toner formulated for printing the encoded line on checks. It fits the same printers as the standard cartridge and is rated at 6,000 pages, but its purpose is specific: producing checks that bank scanners can read.
Will my bank definitely accept checks printed with it?
No cartridge can promise that, and we will not pretend otherwise. Acceptance depends on your bank's scanners, your check stock and your print settings as well as the toner. The honest route is to print a small test batch first and have your bank scan and confirm it before the cartridge goes anywhere near a live check run.
How should the test batch be run?
Print a handful of checks exactly as in production — same stock, same printer, same settings — and take them to the bank for a scanner check. If the bank's reader passes the test batch, you have evidence the whole chain works, not just the cartridge.
Can I also print ordinary documents with a MICR cartridge?
You can, and the output looks like normal black printing. Most offices nevertheless keep a MICR unit dedicated to checks and swap in a standard cartridge for everyday work, because check toner is the more specialised supply. On the LaserJet 1320 the swap takes under a minute either way.
What if a printed check fades or smears?
Stop the run and check the basics: rock the cartridge gently to redistribute toner, confirm the paper path is clean, and reprint one test sheet. Persistent smearing is a reason to pause production and talk to us — checks are the one job where 'good enough' is not good enough.
What warranty and returns cover does it carry?
The same as our standard cartridges: a 1-year warranty and 1-year free returns, set out on our shipping and returns page. We ship from warehouses in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Georgia and California, and support is staffed Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM CST. The cover concerns the cartridge itself; it cannot extend to your bank's acceptance decision.
